Rahul Dravud likely to be head coach for India’s tour to Sri Lanka

BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has confirmed that India will tour Sri Lanka for 3 ODIs & 3 T20s series. This decision came in after the suspension of Indian Premier League. With England set to host India for five Tests, the likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah would not be available to travel to Sri Lanka. It would also mean that head coach Ravi Shastri and bowling coach Bharat Arun and batting coach Vikram Rathour would not be available either.

As per a report, there are high possibilities that Dravid along with his staff at the National Cricket Academy will accompany the Indian team on their Sri Lanka tour.

Dravid – who has been coaching and mentoring the U-19 and the A-side – is no stranger to the job. Players like Rishabh Pant and Prithvi Shaw have all been mentored and coached by Dravid. Dravid has been responsible for providing the senior team with talented cricketers over the years.

The BCCI is still in the process of finalizing the squad amongst the several options available at their disposal. Shikhar Dhawan, who was in sublime form for the Delhi Capitals in IPL 2021, is likely to captain with players likely to make the list for Sri Lanka tour are Prithvi Shaw, Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Navdeep Saini, Khaleel Ahmed, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav and many more.

The focus of selecting the team for Sri Lanka tour will contain mostly white-ball specialists because after the suspension of IPL the BCCI went ahead with the Sri Lanka tour with its second-string white-ball specialists playing the series.
