India Name Full-Strength T20I Squad to Face Afghanistan in Home Away Series
India have announced a formidable squad for their upcoming three-match T20I series against Afghanistan, taking no chances following a recent setback against Ireland. In an unusual scheduling twist, Afghanistan will act as the official hosts for the series, despite all three matches being played at venues across India.
With the series played in Afghanistan’s preferred shortest format, India’s selectors have recalled key senior players while managing several crucial injury updates. Jasprit Bumrah returns to the fold alongside Washington Sundar and Nitish Kumar Reddy, though all three remain subject to final fitness clearances. Pacer Harshit Rana has been ruled out due to injury, with Yash Thakur called up as his replacement. Sanju Samson also returns to the lineup after missing the previous T20I series against Zimbabwe.
The Men in Blue enter the series seeking consistency after an up-and-down run in the shortest format, which included six T20I defeats on their recent UK tour before bouncing back against Zimbabwe. Rising left-handed talent Vaibhav Sooryavanshi retains his spot after impressive performances, having racked up 151 runs in three matches against Zimbabwe.
On the other side, Afghanistan usher in a new era under the captaincy of Ibrahim Zadran. The squad relies heavily on its world-class T20 stars, including Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi, Noor Ahmad, Azmatullah Omarzai, and explosive opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz.
India hold a dominant head-to-head record against Afghanistan in T20Is, winning seven of their eight completed encounters, with one match ending in a no-result. Their previous international meetings include a historic one-off Test match and a three-match ODI series, marking this T20I clash as the next chapter in their growing rivalry.
