Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan from India, and Bhanuka Rajapaksa got their first ODI caps in the Srilanka-India series opener at R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium on Sunday.

Sri Lanka has won the toss and opted to bat first against India in the first ODI. The new Sri Lankan skipper, Dasun Shanaka followed the Khettarama ground’s history of favoring the team that batted first.

Both teams have added aggressive middle-order debutants to their playing XI. Ishan Kishan is playing his debut ODI from India while Bhanuka Rajapaksa will play his debut ODI match for Sri Lanka. Ishan will also do wicket-keeping.

The 30-year-old, Suryakumar Yadav is also added to the top-order to give strength to their batting. Yadav has also received his first ODI cap in the opener of the series.

In the spinners department, India has Yuzvendra Chahal. However, Wanindu Hasaranga is playing for Sri Lanka, and a left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav and Lakshan Sandakan are playing for each side respectively.

Talking about the frontline seam attack, Sri Lanka has Dushmantha Chameera, Isuru Udana, and Chamika Karunaratne, while India has picked Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Deepak Chahar, with Hardik Pandya in support.

India faced a recent blow as their wicket-keeper batsman, Sanju Samson has sprained a ligament in his knee. Also, his inclusion in the rest of the matches is under doubt.

“The medical team is tracking his progress at the moment,”

said the BCCI.

The weather is clear at R. Premadasa International Cricket and it is not expected to interrupt the match.
