Sanju Samson talks about his blistering ton 119 (63), his favourite part of the innings and how he almost took his side across the line.

With the fresh start in this year’s IPL for Punjab Kings, the opener was worth watching as PK beat RR by four runs in a roller coaster.

Despite Sanju Samson’s brilliant knock in match 4 of IPL 2021, he scored a thrilling 119 (63) following twelve fours and seven sixes and yet he failed to take his side across the line.

He went too close to the victory until the last ball when it required maximum off the final ball but Arshdeep Singh was on the bowling end who ensured the victory.

“The second part of the innings was the best I ever played. In the first part, I was not timing it very well. I took my time, respected the bowlers, took singles and got into a rhythm and then I started to play my shots in the second half,”

said Sanju Samson in the post-match presentation.

“I enjoy my shots but I come back to the present after I play those shots. It automatically happens, when I focus on my skills and watch the ball and react. Sometimes I lose my wicket also, so I just play the same way,”

he added.

‘We are used to this’

Meanwhile, Punjab King’s skipper, KL Rahul said that he never stopped believing in his side and he knew that a couple of wickets would set the right tone.

“The game went deep only because me included, we dropped some sitters. We bowled well until about 11-12 overs. We’re used to this, and it’s not something new for us, but a win like this brings the team together,”

said Rahul.

“We batted really well and bowled well in patches. We weren’t consistent with the lengths but the bowlers will learn,”

he added.

Rahul praised Deepak Hooda who scored a crucial 64 off 28 balls to build the foundation for Punjab King’s big total. On the other hand, Arshdeep Singh was the star from the bowling side who saved the ball from Sanju Samson on the last ball.
