Indian all-rounder, Krunal Pandya who came out covid positive on Tuesday has returned all the negative results of Covid-19, revealed the sources. The second T20I will be played on Wednesday, July 28 as per schedule.

The second T20I between India and Sri Lanka will go as per schedule on Wednesday, July 28 in Colombo after eight close contacts of Krunal Pandya, who tested positive for Covid-19 on Tuesday has returned with negative results.

Krunal Pandya will remain in isolation and will not travel back with the rest of the team on July 30, sources revealed. After Krunal’s positive result, the second T20I which was originally scheduled on Tuesday was postponed by a day.

The source also revealed that most of the eight contacts were players and they will not take the field on Wednesday.

“Krunal is symptomatic with cough and throat pain. He is obviously out of the series and will not be able able to return with the rest of the squad,”

a BCCI source told PTI.

“However the good news is that all his eight close contacts who were identified by the BCCI medical officer (Dr. Abhijit Salvi) have tested negative. But as a precautionary measure, they can’t take the field.”

Earlier Tuesday, the 30-year-old had tested positive for Covid-19 after rapid antigen tests were conducted before the second T20I.

BCCI medical team has identified that eight members of Indian crew members along with the players have contacted Krunal closely.

The entire staff had undergone RT-PCR tests on Tuesday

“to ascertain any further outbreak in the squad”,

said BCCI.

India leads the three-match T20I’s by 1-0 after winning the first T20 by 38 runs on Sunday in Colombo. Krunal returned 3 not out while batting and 1/16 in 2 overs while bowling.

The rescheduling means that the teams will play back-to-back games on Wednesday and Thursday at R Premadasa Stadium.

India recently won the three-match ODI series by 2-1 as Shikhar Dhawan led the brand new Indian team with the regular key players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Jasprit Bumrah among others missing the squad.

Kohli and co. are in England for the five-match Test series against England, starting from August 4 at Trent Bridge, Nottingham.

The deadly Covid-19 had also hit the Indian camp in England as the wicket-keeper batsman, Rishabh Pant, and training assistant Dayanand Garan tested positive earlier this month.

Both members of the contingent as well as their close contacts have returned all the negative results to join the rest of the members.
