Jason Holder provided enough strength as Punjab Kings (PBKS) held their nerves to beat SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Match 37 of the VIVO Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Saturday.

Jason Holder starred with the bat and ball to end with the fixtures of 47* (29) while batting and 3/19 in 4 overs while bowling to take Punjab Kings (PBKS) home against SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) in match 37 of Indian Premier League (IPL) at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Saturday.

PBKS were restricted to 125/7, young Ravi Bishnoi and veteran pacer Mohammed Shami played a key role in defending the modest total to help their side seal a five-run victory in a close contest.

KL Rahul, the winning captain (PBKS):

“Used to these games. Hope the TRP is up due to Punjab Kings. I’ll take the win – nothing else to say. Holder played a phenomenal inning. He picked up two wickets in an over to get me and Mayank. He came and batted really well… There was no pace on the pitch…If anyone was set, we could have put 140. I think Harpreet is a brilliant all-around cricketer. He has finished games for us… He is not easy to hit or step under and is a tall bowler. He is a very difficult bowler to get away with. Every time I go to him, he says, “Don’t worry, I won’t give away runs”…”

Jason Holder, the Player of the Match (PBKS):

“Tough loss. Halfway we were in the game. Left a little bit too much in the back end to do. It was good to get a good start [with the ball]. Credit to Suchith, he wasn’t playing… [Hit more sixes than others?] That’s how the game plays. We were behind the eight balls… I just wanted to give myself a chance and strike well. Obviously, we have five games left and these are important games for us… The fans are always behind us, so got to play for them.”

Kane Williamson, the defeated skipper (SRH):

“I think the bowling and fielding did a fantastic job. The surface was a tough one. We were certainly backing ourselves to get close. A brilliant individual effort from Jason Holder. It has been a frustrating season… We need to learn a few lessons from the first half. For us, it was about building a platform… It was quite a challenge. The games come to think and fast… The challenge is to pick ourselves up and come back… Every team is a strong team. We know what it takes…”

Brief Scores: Punjab Kings 125/7 (Aiden Markram 27, KL Rahul 21; Jason Holder 3/19) beat Sunrisers Hyderabad 120/7 (Jason Holder 47*, Wriddhiman Saha 31; Ravi Bishnoi 3/24) by 5 runs.
