Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Sunrisers Hyderabad: Preview and Prediction
Royal Challengers Bangalore and Sunrisers Hyderabad will lock horns in ‘Match 36’ of the 2022 Indian Premier League season at the Brabourne Stadium on Saturday. Bangalore is currently occupying the second position in the league standings with 10 points, while Sunrisers Hyderabad is placed in the fifth position with eight points.
Royal Challengers Bangalore started their journey in this season of the IPL with a defeat but then went on to register three back to back wins in the tournament. The Royal Challengers lost the Kaveri Derby against CSK by 23-runs but have since won two games on the bounce.
On the other hand, Sunrisers Hyderabad has made a stunning comeback after a poor start. They started the season with two back to back defeats in the competition, but have since then won each of their last four games including a win over table-toppers Gujarat Titans.
What have they done so far?
Royal Challengers Bangalore themselves started their season with a narrow defeat against Punjab Kings but then registered three consecutive victories. The streak started with a three-wicket triumph against Kolkata Knight Riders before du Plessis’ team registered a four-wicket win against Rajasthan Royals.
The Bangalore based franchise then defeated Mumbai Indians as well in their fourth outing. However, the Royal Challengers failed to make it four wins in a row, as Chennai Super Kings handed them a 23-run defeat. RCB however soon defeated Delhi Capitals by a 16-run margin courtesy of Dinesh Karthik’s brilliance and followed that up with another 18-run win over Lucknow Super Giants to go second on the points table.
Sunrisers Hyderabad had a disastrous start to their campaign, as they lost both of their first two matches. Kane Williamson’s team started out with a 61-run defeat against Rajasthan Royals and then lost by 12 runs against Lucknow Super Giants.
However, the Orange Army have not had to look back ever since as they registered four victories on the bounce. The 2016 champions secured back-to-back eight-wicket triumphs against Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans and followed that up by winning each of their last two games against Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings by a seven-wicket margin.
Head to Head Record
Sunrisers Hyderabad holds the edge on head-to-head statistics, as they have beaten Royal Challengers Bangalore on 11 of the 20 occasions where these two sides have crossed paths previously. Bangalore meanwhile have won eight games, with one match not yielding a result.
The last meeting between Bangalore and Hyderabad saw the latter securing a mere four-run win courtesy of an economical bowling performance by the Orange Army bowlers wherein they defended a meagre target of 142 runs.
Wanindu Hasaranga (Royal Challengers Bangalore): Wanindu Hasaranga has turned out to be a brilliant investment for RCB since not many batters have been able to decipher the Sri Lankan mystery spinner this season. He has picked up 11 wickets in six games, maintaining an average of 19.5.
Hasaranga scalped a four-fer against Kolkata Knight Riders, got two wickets against Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings each, and picked up one wicket apiece against Punjab Kings, Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals. However, he remained wicketless in RCB’s most recent game against Lucknow.
T Natarajan (Sunrisers Hyderabad): T Natarajan has made a good comeback after recovering from an injury. With 12 wickets from six matches, he is not only Sunrisers Hyderabad’s current leading wicket-taker but also a candidate for the purple cap. What makes Natarajan’s statistics even more special is his consistency, as he has picked up two wickets each in all of those four games.
The bowler who has scalped a wicket in each of the innings he has come to bowl has registered his best performance against Kolkata wherein he bagged three wickets at the expense of 37 runs. Barring the last game against Punjab, he has scalped two wickets in each of the other five games he has bowled in the IPL this season.
Predicted Playing XI
Royal Challengers Bangalore: Faf du Plessis (C), Anuj Rawat, Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, Dinesh Karthik (WK), Shahbaz Ahmed, Wanindu Hasaranga, Suyash Prabhudessai, Harshal Patel, Josh Hazlewood, Mohammed Siraj
Sunrisers Hyderabad: Abhishek Sharma, Kane Williamson (c), Rahul Tripathi, Nicholas Pooran (wk), Aiden Markram, Shashank Singh, Shreyas Gopal, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Marco Jansen, Umran Malik, T Natarajan
This looks to be an intriguing contest between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Sunrisers Hyderabad with both teams capable of prevailing. With so little to split the two, the quality of the batting units is likely to determine the winner.
Royal Challengers Bangalore might have won their last two matches comfortably, Sunrisers Hyderabad seems to have the better balance among the two teams and are themselves on a four-match winning streak, whilst head-to-head statistics are also inclined in their favour. Hence, we have predicted Hyderabad to win this clash between the two teams and move to the third position in the points table.
