South African wicket-keeper batter, Quinton de Kock breaks the record of Adam Gilchrist in the third ODI against India with a 17th ODI ton to move to the second spot in the list of most centuries by wicket-keepers.

Quinton de Kock, South African wicket-keeper batter overtook the record of Adam Gilchrist of most centuries by the designated wicket-keepers in the third ODI against India with a 17th ODI ton to move to the second spot in the elite category.

The 29-year-old batter registered his 17th ODI ton in the third and final ODI match against India in Cape Town before getting dismissed by Jasprit Bumrah on 124 (130).

The left-hander is just behind the former Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara, who has 23 ODI tons under his name. Meanwhile, Gilchrist moves to the third spot in the list with 16 tons, followed by AB de Villiers, Shai Hope, and MS Dhoni in the fourth spot with 10 centuries each.

De Kock also broke the record of the former Indian cricketer, Sehwag’s owned the record of being the quickest batter score six centuries against a single opponent. He reached the feat in just 16 innings against India while Sehwag had achieved the milestone in 23 innings to score his sixth ton against New Zealand.

Not only that, with the century, his 17th in the format, De Kock also surpassed the cricket guru, Sachin Tendulkar to take the top spot alongside Mr 360, AB de Villiers for most centuries in the India-South Africa ODI series. Sachin had five centuries to his name while De Kock now has six centuries against India in ODIs.

South Africa has been in an excellent touch throughout the series as they defeated India first in the longest format (Test) by 2-1 and later they took India in the ODI and gave them nothing to cheer with a clean sweep of 3-0.

The 29-year-old shocked fans and his teammates during the Test series when he announced an immediate retirement from red-ball cricket after the completion of the first Test match with an immediate effect.

De Kock, in a statement, explained his reason:

“This is not a decision that I have come to very easily. I have taken a lot of time to think about what my future looks like and what needs to take priority in my life now that Sasha and I are about to welcome our first child into this world and look to grow our family beyond that. My family is everything to me and I want to have the time and space to be able to be with them during this new and exciting chapter of our lives,”

he said.
