Delhi Capitals vs Kolkata Knight Riders: Preview and Prediction
In the ‘Match 41’ of the 2022 Indian Premier League season, the Delhi Capitals (DC) will be crossing swords with the Kolkata Knight Riders on April 28, 2022, at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The Delhi Capitals have experienced quite mixed fortunes so far in this T20 tournament with just three wins out of their 7 matches. On the other hand, things have not worked out in an ideal manner for the Kolkata Knight Riders as they have ended up losing all of their last 4 games.
Both teams will be looking for a win desperately as they want to get into the playoffs before things get out of their hands. Delhi with 3 wins and 4 losses from 7 games is placed 6th but has the best net run rate this season compared to any other team. This is definitely an advantage for the Capitals but they would want some more winnings against their name.
Nothing is going right for the Kolkata Knight Riders this season. The Shreyas Iyer-led team showed prominence in the opening few games but suddenly has lost momentum and now found themselves in a hollow space with 3 wins and 5 losses from 8 games.
What have they done so far?
Delhi Capitals started their season on a high, where they fought hard to register a four-wicket win against five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians. However, Pant’s team failed to capitalise on the momentum and ended up losing their second game against Gujarat Titans by 14 runs.
After Gujarat, another newly formed franchise in Lucknow Super Giants handed the Capitals a defeat in their third game. However, they bounced back to secure a convincing 44 run win against the formidable Kolkata Knight Riders team before coming second against Royal Challengers Bangalore by 16 runs. Despite being COVID hit, the Capitals registered an emphatic win over Punjab before going down to Rajasthan Royals by 15 runs in a high-scoring affair.
Kolkata Knight Riders, on the other hand, started their season on a positive note, beating Chennai Super Kings by 6 wickets in their first match. However, Iyer’s team failed to carry the winning momentum in their second match, where Royal Challengers Bangalore handed them a three-wicket defeat. The two-time champions made a stunning comeback to register back-to-back victories – winning by six wickets against Punjab Kings and by five wickets against Mumbai Indians.
They however have since succumbed to four defeats on the bounce – a 44-run loss against Delhi Capitals and soon followed that up with a seven-wicket loss against Sunrisers Hyderabad before going down against Rajasthan Royals by a mere margin of seven runs, before losing to Gujarat Titans by eight runs on Saturday.
Head to Head Record
Kolkata Knight Riders hold the upper hand against Delhi Capitals in terms of head-to-head records, as they have won 16 of the 30 meetings against the team from the Northern region of India. Rishabh Pant led Delhi Capitals, meanwhile, have emerged victorious on 13 occasions while one game has finished without any result. The reverse fixture between these two sides played earlier this season saw the Capitals registering a massive 44 run triumph, with Kuldeep Yadav being the star performer for the team from the capital territory of the country.
Umesh Yadav (Kolkata Knight Riders): This has been a season of redemption for pacer Umesh Yadav, who was sparsely used by the team he will be up against in the last two editions. He is currently the leading wicket-taker for his team, having picked up 11 wickets in eight matches at an outstanding strike rate of 18. His best performance this term came against Punjab Kings against whom he scalped four wickets at the expense of 23 runs.
Kuldeep Yadav (Delhi Capitals): Kuldeep Yadav has been in sensational form ever since he moved to Delhi Capitals in this edition of the Indian Premier League. Picking wickets for fun, the chinaman bowler is currently his team’s leading wicket-taker with 13 scalps from seven games. His best bowling performance this season came against his former side and the opposition in this game Kolkata Knight Riders, wherein he scalped four wickets for 35 runs.
Predicted Playing XI
Delhi Capitals: Prithvi Shaw, David Warner, Rovman Powell, Rishabh Pant (C & WK), Yash Dhull, Lalit Yadav, Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Mustafizur Rahman, Khaleel Ahmed
Kolkata Knight Riders: Sam Billings, Venkatesh Iyer, Shreyas Iyer (C), Sheldon Jackson (WK), Nitish Rana, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Tim Southee, Umesh Yadav, Shivam Mavi, Varun Chakravarthy
A top-order that includes David Warner, Prithvi Shaw and Rishabh Pant is always likely to score big and, given that they are likely to improve on their most recent bowling performance, they will be confident of victory – especially against an out-of-form KKR side. Hence, we back Delhi to win this one and move to sixth in the points table.
