Belgium face Portugal in the 1/8 finals of the European Championship. The match will take place on 27 June in Seville, starting at 00:30 IST.

Parimatch favour nominal hosts, but the reigning European champions are not going to in the first round of the playoffs. The first truly epic ⅛ finals match of the European Championship 2020 takes place on Monday (0:30 IST). Belgium’s all-star national team will play against no less name-bright Portugal. One of the main candidates to win the tournament against the reigning European champions. Could the banner be even bigger?

Belgium News & Current Form:

The Belgians made it through the group stage very easily, picking up the maximum number of points. The fears associated with Kevin De Bruyne‘s injury and Eden Hazard‘s lacklustre form proved completely unfounded.

However, it was a worrying second match against Denmark as they had been well prepared tactically to resist. The Danes won the first half 1-0, but De Bruyne came on in the second half, becoming the hero of the game. Thanks to De Bruyne’s goal, the Belgians won 2-1.

Before that, they beat Russia 3-0. It was probably one of the easiest matches for Belgium in recent times. The third match saw Belgium quietly beat Finland 2-0.

Portugal News & Current Form:

The Portuguese did not have such an easy path to the play-offs. In fact, their chances of going home after the group stage were pretty high.

Portugal beat Hungary 3-0 in the first round, but the performance was far from convincing.

The loss to Germany in the next leg was therefore not surprising. The team of Fernando Santos lost 2-4 in Munich.

A 2-2 draw against France has saved Portugal from an early departure. But it is important to understand that both teams played too accurately, although three of the four goals came from penalties.

Cristiano Ronaldo has scored five goals at this EURO. However, three of them were from penalty kicks.

Statistical preview of the match Belgium vs Portugal:

  • Portugal have scored at least 2 goals in 8 of their last 9 matches (European Championship).
  • Belgium have scored at least 2 goals in their last 13 matches (European Championship).
  • Belgium won all three of their group matches, only looking below par in one half against Denmark.

Belgium vs Portugal Prediction:

The odds are 2.46 for Belgium, 3.20 for a draw and 3.25 for Portugal to go further.

We all remember the way the Portuguese won Euro 2016 – by counterattacking. Giving the ball to Belgium and relying on the quick wingers, the creativity of Bruno Fernandes and the ruthless execution of Ronaldo – Fernando Santos seems to have the perfect plan to reach the quarter-finals.

In our opinion, the chances are very close. The details will decide everything: the realization, the goalkeepers’ actions, mistakes of referees, or maybe even luck will decide the winner.

The Portuguese in general will have a difficult time. They have Ronaldo, but they don’t seem to have any confidence in their own abilities in matches against top teams. In that game against Germany, Portugal didn’t know what to do when their opponents increased the tempo.

The match against Belgium will be something similar. Portugal may score, but they will still concede more.

ParimatchNews staff prediction:

We are looking for two pretty interesting options. Both teams to score (Parimatch offers 1.82) and Belgium to win (2.46).
