The final day of the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games brought in a lot of success for the Indian contingent as five medals were won on Monday to increase the tally.

PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen got impressive wins to secure singles gold medals while Achanta Sharath Kamal proved yet again that age is just a number.

The Indian men’s hockey team had a day to forget but ended up with silver, while G.Sathiyan fought hard to secure a bronze medal to end India’s campaign on a high as the nation finished with 61 medals including 22 gold medals, 16 silver medals, and 23 bronze medals.

Here’s a rundown of all the major Indian results from Day 11 of the Commonwealth Games in 2022 –

Badminton

PV Sindhu won the women’s singles gold medal at the Commonwealth Games 2022 with a dominant performance on Monday. Sindhu defeated Michelle Li, a former CWG gold medalist, 21-15, 21-13. This was her third CWG singles medal and first gold.

20-year-old Lakshya Sen staged an incredible comeback against Malaysia’s in-form Ng Tze Yong to win Gold in men’s singles badminton in his first appearance at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

Lakshya Sen lost the first game 19-21 after a hard-fought battle against Malaysia’s lower-ranked Ng Tze Yong, but he came back to win a memorable Gold for India on the final day of the Birmingham Games.

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty preserved India’s unblemished record in badminton finals at the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022 by defeating England’s star duo in straight games and winning the gold medal in the men’s doubles final on Monday.

This is the first time India has won three gold medals in badminton at the Commonwealth Games.

Table Tennis

Achanta Sharath Kamal won his second men’s singles table tennis gold medal at the Commonwealth Games. Sharath Kamal returned to the top of the singles podium 16 years after winning gold in Melbourne.

Kamal won the men’s singles final 4-1 over World No. 20 Liam Pitchford and the local favourite, bringing his Commonwealth Games tally to a whopping 13 medals.

India’s G.Sathiyan won the men’s singles bronze medal with a hard-fought win over England’s Paul Drinkhall. This is Gnanasekaran’s first CWG singles medal and his third in this year’s competition.

He had previously won silver in men’s doubles and a gold medal in the men’s team event. The 29-year-old won the match 11-9 11-3 11-5 8-11 9-11 10-12 11-9 and with a margin of 4-3.

Hockey

The Indian men’s hockey team had to settle for silver after being defeated in the final by Australia on Monday. India finished second in the tournament after a 7-0 defeat.

Braces from Jacob Anderson and Nathan Ephraums, as well as goals from Tom Wickham, Blake Govers, and Flynn Ogilvie, capped off a perfect day for Australia, who won their seventh CWG gold medal.
