Brian Lara is set to join Sunrisers Hyderabad coaching staff ahead of IPL 2022.

In the wake of a disastrous campaign in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 tournament wherein they finished last, the IPL 2016 winners Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have announced appointing a refurbished coaching staff which includes West Indian batting legend Brian Lara and South Africa bowling great Dale Steyn, along with a few other heavyweights.

While Lara has been named the strategic advisor and batting coach of the Sunrisers Hyderabad team, South Africa’s Steyn has been named their fast bowling coach, having announced his retirement from all formats of the sport in August this year. Steyn has also been a player for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the past.

Among the major changes to the coaching staff is the return of former World Cup winning Australian all-rounder Tom Moody as the head coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad, in place of compatriot Trevor Bayliss, who decided to part ways with the franchisee after IPL 2021. Moody had been a coach in the past for Sunrisers Hyderabad and was working in the capacity of the team’s director of cricket in the last season.

Moody had a successful run as the head coach of SRH team who went past the league stage as many as five times and also won the IPL title in 2016, under the leadership of David Warner, who was let go by the franchise after the last IPL edition in a controversial manner which sparked a lot of criticism from fans and critics, including Steyn

Sri Lanka bowling legend Muttiah Muralidharan continues to be the spin bowling coach of the SRH team for the upcoming IPL 2022 season, whereas the franchisee has also revealed former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) head coach Simon Katich as their assistant coach. The former India cricketer Hemang Badani was revealed as the fielding coach and talent scout for Sunrisers Hyderabad, following his impressive record in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL)

It was also revealed on Thursday that the mega auction for IPL 2022 will be held on February 12 and 13 with Sunrisers Hyderabad having retained their regular captain Kane Williamson, along with uncapped players in fast bowler Umran Malik and all-rounder Abdul Samad.
