West Ham United will host AFC Bournemouth in the English Premier League 13th-tour match at the London Stadium. The fixture will take place on October 25, beginning at 00:30 IST.

The opponents approach the thirteenth round on the neighboring lines in the standings (13th and 12th places respectively). It is important for the visitors to retain their place in the elite of English football, while the hosts have set themselves the goal of qualifying for the European competitions, although at the moment the fulfillment of such an objective seems simply not feasible.

Now, on the whole, West Ham are in a much better shape after a lackluster start – even though the Londoners have only managed one point in the last two rounds. There is a feeling that lads of experienced David Moyes are now pretty close to their best form and will soon be able to gradually reach the upper half of the table in course of the season, but to do so they must win matches against opponents such as the Cherries. The match will represent some kind of indicator that will show whether the Hammers can really hope for a bright future.

Bournemouth have just got promoted from the EFL Championship, although they look fairly convincing so far. The visitors are used to playing aggressively which helps them to bash opponents and it is unlikely to change in the upcoming encounter. This could be a great chance for the Hammers, as they are better prepared tactically and have excelled in counterattacking football. Home arena and massive support of the stands will do a favor for the guys of interim coach Gary O’Neil, former West Ham midfielder.

Can the struggling EPL regulars handle an equally troubled Championship side? Parimatchnews will tell you everything you need to know ahead of the upcoming match.

West Ham United News & Current Form:

The Londoners have got past their dreadful start to the season and now they are steadily gaining momentum to put up a fight against any opponent. At this moment, West Ham have a record six wins in their last nine games, and last week they battled Liverpool on equal terms and could well have clinched the points. The London lads fought till the end but lost 0-1. In fact, the Hammers could have easily turned the game around at some point. But Jarred Bowen missed the spot-kick in the 45th minute and it largely decided the game.

The defeat at Anfield was the first for West Ham United in six games. That said, the Londoners have an excellent winning streak of four games in a row at London Stadium, two of which have been in the UEFA Conference League. There, by the way, they are doing extremely well, comfortably topping the group B with 12 points after 4 rounds (second-placed Silkeborg are 6 points behind). At the moment they can switch all their efforts to the domestic championship.

Because things look a lot gloomier when it comes to the English Premier League. There, before the 13th matchday, West Ham was just 13th with eleven points under the belt, which is 2 points from the relegation zone.

After a poor start the situation seems to be getting better, with the trend looking very positive at least. For a full ‘recovery’ they need to return to the top half of the EPL table as soon as possible, which is what they will try to do in the upcoming match. The expected goals in the last match (Xg: Liverpool 1.74 vs 2.19 West Ham) signal that the Londoners are on the right track and have every right to feel frustrated over the result of the match. After such a performance, the Hammers will want to blow off steam and bounce back against a newcomer who is definitely inferior in terms of capabilities.

David Moyes’ lads have improved first and foremost offensively and no longer look as primitive upfront as they did at the start of the season. A chemistry between quality players, some of whom are newcomers, is still a big issue, and that is what has been happening in the Londoners’ camp of late. And all the metamorphosis that has taken place over the course of the season will give West Ham an opportunity to take all three points, as a club of this caliber has no desire to stay at the bottom of the table for too long.

AFC Bournemouth News & Current Form:

Bournemouth have returned to the elite of English football and so far they have been doing relatively well, although there was stagnation at first as the team adjusted to the realities of the EPL, which is when the 0-9 fiasco against Liverpool happened.

But in general, AFC Bournemouth have played better than expected so far, as this team’s squad is nowhere near the level of the EPL. The thing is that the Cherries received very modest reinforcements in the summer having spent only €26.90, by comparison, the similar newcomer Nottingham Forest spent as much as €161.95m. And even with all that spending, the Foresters are struggling in the strongest league in the world. So what to say about the league’s cheapest squad, where the total value of the line-up is in the region of €175.90m. The sum seems modest even for the Championship.

Moreover, the management has aggravated things by sacking the coach, who has long been sculpting the team just for himself and his tactical picture. The reason for the dismissal was allegedly the fact that Scott Parker at a certain point lost his nerve and began openly criticizing the management and the club’s ineffective policies in connection with poor transfer support.

It seemed to be a sure ticket back to the Championship for the Cherries, but the temporary caretaker Gary O’Neill seems to have led Bournemouth out of the crisis. Under him, the side went six matches unbeaten, a streak that was broken in the last round. Back then, the Red and Blacks unexpectedly lost 0-1 to Southampton

That dropped them back into the second half of the table, but the team is still above West Ham. The Cherries have conceded seven goals in seven games, while scoring only one more.

Overall, it doesn’t look like Bournemouth will be desperately fighting for survival, but the danger of it is still there. The Cherries have only lost two out of six away games, so O’Neill’s men are certainly capable of what they can do and have the determination to fight for all three points. Naturally, Bournemouth are not competing for the greater heights, picking up points only against teams of around their level, but at this particular level they are looking really confident.

What has been said before the match:

David Moyes, the West Ham United gaffer:

“I think we were impressive in midweek. I think we’re back to our levels and we’re close to showing exactly what we can do. Of course, you’re always looking for things to be better, and our finishing could probably be better, but we’ll be looking to get a positive result on Monday.”

“I’ve got to say that Scott Parker did a brilliant job at Bournemouth as well. He got them up and back in the Premier League, which was a great achievement. Gary has picked it up and taken it on a little bit as well, so he’s done very well. It’s not easy to go on these sorts of runs in the Premier League, with a new club, but they’ve had a really good start to the season.”

“I’m not surprised by how tight the Premier League table is looking. I think there is very little between the teams in the Premier League. With the teams at the bottom, there are some very good sides down there and that could change very quickly. I think the tightness in the league is not a surprise. There are three or four very good, exceptional teams, but there is not much between the rest of the sides. I think every game, no matter who you’re playing, comes with a huge degree of difficulty. We’ll go into the game knowing it’s a pretty important home game for us. Our home form has been pretty good and we want to try and keep that going.”

Gary O’Neil, the AFC Bournemouth gaffer:

“I’m extremely proud to stand at the front with the boys in every game, even when it was difficult for them against Southampton. I was just really proud to be able to stand there and let them know that we’re in it together. We were losing the game and it was difficult but I saw a group of players that were just relentless and keen to just keep going.”

“Even if they failed and a final ball let them down, they would arrive again and try again. If they misplaced a pass, they would take the ball and try again. When Southampton stung us on a counter-attack, I saw ten outfield players sprinting back as fast as they could and I saw fans that stuck with them. I was still very proud we managed to produce that, although disappointed we didn’t take anything from the game. What’s really important to me is the characteristics of how we lose a game and how we perform. Southampton was an acceptable way to go about a performance in the Premier League.”

“I’m looking forward to Monday. Going back to an old club was always a bit special when I was playing and I’m sure that will feel the same now I’m managing. The disappointment of the Southampton result doesn’t dent or affect what we are as a group. As we always do, we take stock, we re-set and let’s go again at West Ham. Most of the time when we go away from home, we’re big underdogs but that hasn’t stopped us in the past few weeks from picking up positive results.”

West Ham United vs AFC Bournemouth Prediction:

Bournemouth created almost nothing in the 90 minutes of the game against Southampton, although they had been super active a few days earlier away to Fulham. It seems that Cherries are already starting to lack the energy to play at the same high rhythm in such a busy schedule. We should hardly expect anything different after a few more days away from West Ham. Surely, the plan will be to play mostly defensively, which has been effective on several occasions in recent times. So far, Bournemouth remain a mystery team, and horrendous defeats like the one against declining Liverpool (9-0) will continue to inspire skepticism about the team for a long time to come. It is unclear how the Cherries plan to stay in the middle of the table with such competition and density.

It is expected that the much more experienced and mature side will manage to take three points from their opponents in probably not the most productive of matches. Both teams are similarly underperforming offensively, averaging just under 1 goal per game in the EPL, while West Ham are far more successful defensively, conceding almost 50% less than Gary O’Neill’s side (12 vs 23 conceded in 11 games).
