Premier League 2021-22: Brentford vs Chelsea. Prediction and Preview. Probable Lineups, Team News, Stats and more

Brentford, Chelsea
Brentford Community Stadium has already proved to be a very loud and atmospheric place

Daring newcomers Brentford are set to play at home against title challengers Chelsea in the eighth round of the English Premier League. The match takes place on 16th of October and kicks off at 22:00 IST.

The fixture at Brentford is scheduled for the Saturday evening slot for a reason. It can be called the main event on Matchday 8, as Brentford Community will bring together one of the top contenders for the league title and a very bright side that have already given a good fight to the top sides. The teams are currently in first and seventh place respectively, only four points adrift of each other in the table.

Brentford News & Current Form:

Brentford are in seventh place after seven rounds – this is a marvellous result for such a modest team, which played in the Championship last season. The difference in points is extremely small, so the Londoners should not underestimate this team.

In the round before last, the bright newcomer to the EPL drew with Liverpool. The frantic encounter ended in a 3-3 draw.

The Bees are netting a lot, scoring 10 goals in seven games. Notable encounters have included a 2-0 win against Arsenal, with Brentford picking up six more points against Wolverhampton (2-0) and West Ham (2-1).

The Bees have so far failed to pick up points only against Brighton (0-1).

The performance of the defensive line also looks good, having conceded just six times and not losing four games to date.

Chelsea News & Current Form:

The reigning winners of the UEFA Super Cup and the Champions League began the group stage of Europe’s top club competition with a 1-0 win over Zenit, followed by a surprise 0-1 defeat to Juventus.

The team got off to a strong start in the FA League Cup, defeating Aston Villa to reach the 1/8 finals of the trophy.

Thomas Tuchel’s side have made excellent progress in the English league. After seven rounds, the Pensioners have five victories and one draw, bringing them 16 points and the sole leader position for the first time since May 2017. Following a 0-1 defeat at the hands of Manchester City, the capital’s side were dealt with by Southampton (3-1).

Reece James, Romelu Lukaku and Christian Pulisic, who has an ankle injury, will not be available today.

Statistical preview of the match Brentford vs Chelsea:

  • Chelsea FC have won their last six away London derbies in the Premier League.  The Pensioners could become the first team in the history of the top four English divisions to win 7 straight away London derbies.
  • Brentford are the first team in the history of the EPL not to lose in their first 3 London derbies. The Bees beat Arsenal and West Ham and drew with Crystal Palace.
  • Before the break, Chelsea beat Southampton 3-1, although they needed two late goals to do so. Truth be told, they have been struggling of late.

What has been said before the match:

Thomas Tuchel before the match:

“Brentford will be up to win. They play with a lot of enthusiasm and they catch already momentum and all the enthusiasm from getting promoted after so many years when they tried hard. And finally Chelsea comes, and not for a cup game, not for a friendly game, Chelsea arrives for a game in the Premier League and they have so many points on their side, they have such good results and they are doing a fantastic job and the atmosphere will be like this. They will play with a lot of courage, they will play with a lot of confidence, but we cannot be surprised. We know all this and now it’s on us to adapt and to accept the situation like it is. They will not gift us a single inch on the field and we have to be ready mentally, physically and tactically. This is not a match now about knowing the solutions or out-skilling your opponent, this is also a match where we have to match the mentality and the attitude.”

Thomas Frank is ready to give Chelsea a fight:

“Every game in the Premier League is a big game but to face the European Champions and top of the league is a huge challenge that you really like to test yourself against. We got the team together today after the internationals and there’s a very nice atmosphere. Everyone is looking forward to Saturday. I believed that we could get something out of the game against Liverpool and I also believe we can get something out of a game against Chelsea. The odds are more towards a win for Chelsea than a win for Brentford but I 100 per cent believe we can get something out of the game, hopefully three points. We are not going out there to put in a nice performance, do well, and everyone likes Brentford. We are going out there to try to win.”

Brentford vs Chelsea Prediction:

Brentford have started the new season well, but morale alone will not get them far. Chelsea are in the lead, which gives the Pensioners no margin for error today. In our opinion, everything will fall into place today. The visitors are more powerful than the Bees on all fronts and can get their three points entirely through class, the support of the capital city fans and a huge tournament motivation.

The statistics of face-to-face meetings, the class of performers and the budget are on Chelsea’s side. In addition, the team have serious experience of playing at the highest level. We think the visitors can take away three points, and they’ll do it with confidence.

Still, given what we have already seen from Brentford against Liverpool, there is no reason why the newly promoted side can’t give Chelsea some trouble here. In addition, the important Lukaku may be absent.

Parimatch News staff prediction:

We say: Chelsea to win and both teams to score.
