Manchester United announces Erik Ten Hag as the new manager

Erik Ten Hag to begin a new spell at Manchester United

Manchester United has put an end to all speculation by announcing current Ajax manager Erik Ten Hag as Ralf Ragnick’s successor. The Dutchman will join the English giants post the completion of the 2021-22 Premier League season and has signed a contract to stay in Manchester till June 2025 with an option to extend for a further year as well.

John Murtough, the Director of Football at Manchester United praised ten Hag’s abilities as a coach and the style of play he instils in the teams.

He said,

“During the past four years at Ajax, Erik has proved himself to be one of the most exciting and successful coaches in Europe, renowned for his team’s attractive, attacking football and commitment to youth.”

Murtough further praised the Dutchman’s long-term vision and wished him luck for the near future when he will be joining the 13-time Premier League champions.

He continued,

“In our conversations with Erik leading up to this appointment, we were deeply impressed with his long-term vision for returning Manchester United to the level we want to be competing at, and his drive and determination to achieve that. We wish Erik the best of luck as he focuses on achieving a successful end to the season at Ajax and look forward to welcoming him to Manchester United this summer.”

Ten Hag has previous connections in Manchester as was the head coach of Bayern Munich’s second team when Pep Guardiola was leading the German giants to successive Bundesliga titles in Germany.

Since then, the 52-year old has been the manager of Utrecht and Ajax leading the Dutch giants to a UEFA Champions League semi-final apart from winning two Eredivisie titles, a couple of KNVB Cups, and a solitary Johan Cyruff Shield as well.

Ten Hag is absolutely delighted to join the English giants and feels that he is determined to bring the successful times back at Old Trafford.

He said,

“It is a great honor to be appointed manager of Manchester United and I am hugely excited by the challenge ahead. I know the history of this great club and the passion of the fans, and I am absolutely determined to develop a team capable of delivering the success they deserve.

The Dutchman was also reminiscent of his times at Ajax and promised the Ajax fans that he is completely committed to them till the end of the season.He concluded,

“It will be difficult to leave Ajax after these incredible years, and I can assure our fans of my complete commitment and focus on bringing this season to a successful conclusion before I move to Manchester United.”
