Bayern will face Barcelona in the final round of the Champions League 21\22 group stage. The match will be played in Munich on December 8, kicking off at 21:00 CET Munich local time (01:30 IST).

Club football is in full swing. The domestic league matches have been played out over the weekend and the Euro Arena is on the agenda now. The Champions League group stage finishes on 8 December. A formidable Bayern will take on a struggling Barcelona at the Allianz Arena in Germany.

The Germans are clear favourites, their performance is outstanding and their form is admirable. That’s not the case for Barcelona, who are having a difficult time, playing with youth and probably not yet ready for big battles with Xavi. Nevertheless, this is a really important match for the Blaugrana as they need a victory to progress to the UCL playoffs. Let’s see what are their chances of qualifying.

If Barcelona suffer defeat this week, the 2021-22 Champions League campaign will be their worst in 23 years.

Bayern Munich News & Current Form:

Bayern tops the group after five rounds. The ‘German machine’ have yet to lose a single point.

It can be said that Bayern have easily won all their previous five games. The overall goal difference – 19-3 – attests to that.

The hardest match, if we can say so, for Bayern was an away game against Dynamo Kyiv (2-1) on Matchday 5. The hosts were trying to level the score till the last minute but failed to do so.

Last Saturday, Bayern defeated Borussia Dortmund 3-2 in Der Klassikier. The main hero of the match was, of course, Robert Lewandowski, who scored two goals.

The match was really entertaining:

Sabitzer, Kimmich, Kuizans, Lukas, Sarr and Stanišić will not be involved due to injuries.

Barcelona News & Current Form:

Barcelona, meanwhile, occupy second place. The Catalans presently have seven points. The gap to Benfica is only two points, and the problem is that the Portuguese side will be playing in Lisbon against a weak Dynamo Kyiv in the last matchday. So there are huge changes for Blaugrana to be dropped to the 3rd Europa League place in case of defeat or even draw.

What is another problem is that Barça, even after the appointment of Xavi, still play far too unimpressive. This is also due to injuries of some key players, but it’s not only about them.

A few days ago, Barcelona lost on home soil to Betis (0-1). After the game, Xavi insisted he was confident that his side can still win in Munich. Surely, at heart, the Barça head coach must be thinking differently.

Barcelona have won just two away games this season. In one of them, they barely beat Dynamo Kyiv 1-0 thanks to Ansu Fati, who will miss the game with Bayern Munich through injury.

Not playing – Aguero, Braithwaite, Wagué, Pedri, Roberto, Fati.

What has been said before the match:

Julian Nagelsmann

“I’d have bet beforehand that we would already be through. However, it will still be an important game. We want to keep this momentum going for the Bundesliga, as we still have three important games left. The UCL is always something special. Barcelona are a very good team with world-class players. They need a result and will give it everything. That will make it a good game. It’s less about knocking anyone out for us, but rather about picking up three points.”

Xavi Hernández:

“It’s a decisive game for us and we have our own fate in our own hands. If we win, we are through. History tells us that we have not won in Munich but now we have a chance to break that run. We have a great chance to rewrite history with our first win there and we are looking forward to that.” said the Spaniard with positivity.

“It is not the best place we could find ourselves in, but we go out with confidence, try to dominate by having the ball and attack. We have to defend as a team and try to keep Lewandowski out of the area because that’s where he is decisive. Depending on how it goes, we will see if there is a miracle or not. After the game we will talk about how we have done and if Bayern have caused us problems. I don’t see it as a miracle as it’s just one game and Barça can beat anyone. We are ready to compete. I hope the recent defeats do not affect us mentally. We have a tough task and only a win will do.”

Bayern Munich vs Barcelona Prediction:

Barça could theoretically be satisfied even with a draw in this match. But only if Benfica lose points against Dynamo. As a matter of fact, the Catalans must win.

But there is no point to even think about it. The matches against Bayern have been a real nightmare for Barcelona recently. A year ago, the Germans tore Barça apart 8-2, and this autumn they quietly demolished them at Camp Nou, scoring three unanswered goals.

In the upcoming match, lads of Nagelsmann will also look to smash the Spaniards. This time, the main motivation is to show the world who is actually the best player in the world at the moment. Barcelona’s defence will for sure find it difficult to hold off Lewandowski.
