Arsenal will host Tottenham Hotspur in the English Premier League ninth-tour match at the Emirates Stadium. The fixture will take place on October 1, beginning at 17:00 IST.

The best league in the world is back and immediately gives us a classy match. After the international break, the 9th round will bring the North London Derby to the fore.

The hype surrounding one of the highlight matches of the matchday is entirely justified: Arsenal and Tottenham, the first and third teams in the tournament so far, are set to test their capabilities. At the moment, these positions in the table are tentative and the teams are actually going neck-and-neck with just one point difference. There’s still a long way to go, but it’s fair to say that both sides have made a good start, and many experts are already speculating that both clubs have a shot at the title.

The result could knock the Gunners off the top spot, which will benefit the White and Black. That makes the duel between the leaders all the more interesting to watch. The physical condition of the players may also have an impact on the spectacle, as they will be returning in uncharted form from their national teams, and the early kick-off will have an impact here too. However, the head coaches feel there is no need to motivate the players for an already electrifying derby.

Parimatchnews will tell you everything you need to know ahead of the upcoming match.

Arsenal News & Current Form:

For perhaps the first time in recent years, Arsenal fans are hoping the team will fight for the league title. The Londoners genuinely pulled out the big guns as they won their first five EPL games. Yet there was also the defeat against Manchester United at Old Trafford (1-3), the only team from the top six that Arsenal have faced so far.  All other victories have been over the mid-table sides, a fact often used by critics and pundits as an argument that the Gunners’ unclouded image is illusory.

Thus, the upcoming match against Tottenham should show how ready Mikel Arteta’s men are to contest their major rivals. Against the Red Devils, it seems the Londoners were just unlucky, as they looked far more convincing and dangerous. Now we’ll find out if the result was an accident or if it was a legitimate one.

Either way, the team has definitely become stronger this season. The project formulated in 2019 has already begun to bear fruit one year ago. We can see that in the transfers, in the atmosphere inside and around the club and in the game itself. The fanbase, players and staff have come along, the belief in success has emerged, lessons have been learned from all the past failures. And all of that builds confidence in the youngest squad of the Premiership, which is what we’re seeing on the pitch.

“I would say they have a good chance this season because I don’t see any super dominating team. I believe that it is a good opportunity to win the title for Arsenal. Of course, it’s a little bit of a special season as well because you have the World Cup in the middle and you don’t know how much that will affect the performances of the individual players and of the teams.”

says club legend and ex-manager Arsene Wenger.

The only obvious problem at the moment is the depth of the squad. The quality of players in the starting eleven is outstanding, but when someone gets injured or sidelined, it gets complicated. For example, the recent crisis at the CDM position, with both main (Thomas Partey) and backup (Mohamed Elneny) players dropping out, luckily Albert Sambo Lokonga filled in relatively well. But of course, this kind of ‘satisfactory’ quality is insufficient not only for championship ambitions, but also at least for making it to UCL.

The urgent signing of a quality player proved unsuccessful, but the postponement of games and an international break did remedy the situation a little – the Ghanaian midfielder returned to action, but there were worrying tidings from his national side’s camp during friendlies as if he’d suffered another recurrence. Doctors dismissed the concerns, saying they had taken the player off as a precautionary measure in consultation with Arsenal’s medical staff.

Similar cases have happened with Oleksandr Zinchenko, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Kieran Tierney. Hopefully they will be available for the derby, and all the worrying news were merely the result of intelligent cautionary measures by the national team medics in agreement with Arsenal. The presence of the guys listed, the core players, will have a direct impact on the course of the match.

Tottenham Hotspur News & Current Form:

Spurs represent another contender for the league title for the moment. Antonio Conte has a vast amount of experience under his belt and knows how to build a team capable of reaching the heights. His wishes in the summer transfer window were satisfied, with quality players coming in. And yet the squad was fine as it was with Harry Kane (27 goals + 10 assists in 21/22) and Son Heung-min (24 + 10 assists in 21/22) super-star bromance alone literally carrying the team on their shoulders season after season. In essence, the only thing that needed to be taken care of was depth of squad, especially before a long and difficult season – and the Italian specialist did just that.

There is also an intriguing fact that, typically, it is in Conte’s second year that he always produces a result. However, even in his first season, he managed to finish in the top four with Tottenham and qualify for the Champions League (which was the maximum target for that campaign).

The team remained focused and continued their upward trajectory, making an excellent start to the 22/23 season. In doing so, Spurs have not lost a single match on a par with Man City and have only lost points in their two away games against Chelsea and West Ham

However, Tottenham are yet to be tested in games against the top teams, and Arsenal are one of them. There are Champions League games in parallel as well, and this is a tough circumstance as something has to be sacrificed. So far, as we can see, Spurs have their fair share of problems, with a very indicative example of a frankly weak 1-0 win against the stagnating Wolves. However, despite the lack of eye appeal, Conte’s football does produce results, albeit with a huge amount of luck. The situation will improve over time, but such matches will continue to pop up.

Speaking of the UCL, the Londoners have one win and one defeat in the European tournament. If in the first case the Black and Whites barely won Olympique de Marseille, who were in the minority the whole second half, the second round brought a disaster. Another typical performance in the style of Antonio, but this time the luck was not on the side of his charges, Sporting snatched 3 points at the end of the match.

Now, before the World Cup break, Conte’s task is to keep his team in the leading group, it is important not to lose at the Emirates. Team leader Harry Kane arrives at the club’s premises in high spirits after a brisk draw against Germany in the Nations League. And the frustration after a relegation in the tournament will give the forward the urge to convert anger into goals.

The absence of one of the team’s key players, Hugo Lloris, who suffered a thigh injury on 19 September and missed two games in the Nations League, could have a negative impact on the chances of victory. However, the injury is reportedly not serious, so there is a good chance that the 35-year-old will be back in action in time for the derby.

“It would be a big blow, he’s the captain as well as their number one goalkeeper. Fraser Forster would come in and he’s earned his move to Tottenham, he’s got lots of Premier League experience, but you can’t take away the qualities that Lloris has as both a leader and as a goalkeeper.”

says Tom Barclay.

What has been said before the match:

Alan Shearer, the English football pundit:

“In just over a year, Arteta has not just built a different team, he has transformed the mood of the whole club. He deserves great credit for that, because he got a lot of criticism after the way they started last season, with three straight defeats. This time, they have won six out of their first seven league games and go into the international break at the top of the table. They deserve it too.”

“It’s been a strange start to this campaign by some of the big clubs… And I still think Arsenal’s main target is a return to the top four for the first time since 2016, and they have not done too much wrong so far. Their next two league games at the start of October, at home to Spurs and Liverpool, will tell us more about whether they can sustain this strong start but, right now, their fans will be enjoying what they are seeing.”

Gary Mabbutt, the Tottenham Hotspur legend:

“It’s a massive game. Our results have been fantastic this season, our performances overall have been slightly below par, if anything, and I feel when we hit top form, we’ll be a force to be reckoned with. This is a game where you should find that form. I’m confident we’ve got the squad to go there and get a fantastic result. As I said, I’ve a lot of friends who are Arsenal fans, and they are far more concerned about the game than me! We showed when we were up against it at Chelsea that we had a never-say-die attitude, then you’ve Sonny coming on against Leicester and the goals flowing. At the moment, we’re getting to where we want to be, we’re unbeaten in the league and, as far as I’m concerned, we look capable of putting in sustained challenges across all fronts this season.”

Arsenal vs Tottenham Hotspur Prediction:

On the eve, the Arsenal Women’s team defeated Tottenham Women 4-0, which in itself should inspire the men’s team not to disappoint their colleagues. But Spurs, on the other hand, are determined to avenge their ladies – which is also a strong motivation to consider.

At the start of the next English Premier League season, Arsenal and Tottenham are looking pretty good, both in terms of play and results. The attack performance of both the home team and the visitors is prolific as well. Most of the games of the teams are played with a lot of goals scored. Head-to-head encounters are also often productive, with 5 of the last 7 meetings seen a total of more than 2.5.

The next famous North London derby promises to be no less passionate, exciting and productive, and in both directions. In 6 of the past 10 head-to-head encounters, the teams have exchanged goals.
