Novak Djokovic celebrates after winning his quarterfinal game against Andrey Rublev

The 2023 edition of the Wimbledon Championships has reached towards the end with four men set to compete for the beautiful trophy. On one hand, the 2022 champion Novak Djokovic would look to defend his title, and the comeback man Daniil Medvedev would like to win his first-ever Wimbledon trophy.

World number one Carlos Alcaraz is also one of the contenders for the title which could be his first one on grass. However, Jannik Sinner surprised everyone with his first-ever grand slam semi-final appearance. If he could make history here, then it has to be amongst the best-ever Wimbledon Championships to date.

Here are the highlights of the Men’s Quarter-final matches:

Andrey Rublev vs Novak Djokovic

The world number seven Andrey Rublev had been phenomenal in the tournament before making an exit in the quarters against Novak Djokovic. All his matches from the first round have been competitive with none of the matches finished in straight games.

The quarter-final against the current champion was a tough battle for Rublev as he tried his level best but failed to earn a victory. The Russian star started off really well with a victory in the first set 6-4 but unfortunately, he failed to continue the momentum. Djokovic, on the other hand, made a terrific comeback and won the next three sets 6-1, 6-4, 6-3 to win the match easily.

It was one of the finest comebacks in the tournament when it came to the knockout rounds. The Serbian star’s journey in the ongoing tournament was not easy at all as he won some epic clashes against the likes of Stan Wawrinka and Hubert Hurkacz in the third round and Round of 16 respectively. On the other hand, Rublev defeated David Goffin and Alexander Bublik in his previous two matches before his exit.

Now, the world number two is set to face Jannik Sinner in the semi-final where he will start as the favorite.

Jannik Sinner vs Roman Safiullin

Jannik Sinner reached his first-ever grand slam semifinal after defeating Roman Safiullin

The way Jannik Sinner has played in this tournament so far has been exceptional. He just outclassed everyone that came his way including Quentin Halys and Daniel Galan to name a few.

In his quarter-final match against Roman Safiullin, Sinner was outstanding throughout and won the four-set match by 6-4, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2. There was not even a single stage where he looked bleak and he just got better and better towards the end by giving no chance to Safiullin.

Now, he is all set to play his semi-final match against Djokovic which is not going to be easy but Sinner has all the capability to stun any big player on his day.

On the flip side, Safiullin played well throughout the tournament with victories against Roberto Bautista and Denis Shapovalov which would surely give him a lot of confidence going forward.

Carlos Alcaraz vs Holger Rune

World number one player Carlos Alcaraz had been terrific against Holger Rune in his quarter-final clash. It was a three-set affair with Alcaraz winning them all with ease. He won the battle 7-6, 6-4, 6-4 before going into the semis. On the other hand, Rune was coming after defeating Grigor Dimitrov in the Round of 16 but couldn’t continue his great performance against Carlos Alcaraz.

The Spaniard will now take on Daniil Medvedev in the semi-final which is going to be a big game for both. Medvedev, who is returning to the grass after missing the last year’s edition, would like to win his maiden title, whereas Alcaraz too has his eyes on his first Wimbledon trophy.

Daniil Medvedev vs Christopher Eubanks

The five-set affair between Medvedev and Eubanks was a sheer classic with the world number three winning in the end with ease. It looked like Eubanks was completely tired in the last set as he lost that by 1-6. Medvedev won the encounter 6-4, 1-6, 4-6, 7-6, 6-1 in the end to book his place in the final four.

Now, he is all set to meet Alcaraz in the semi-final which promises to be a great encounter of two players capable of defeating one another after their remarkable performances in the past.

Daniil Medvedev won his quarter-final clash against Christopher Eubanks

Talking about the tournament, Medvedev had a superb comeback with the victories coming against Jiri Lehecka and Marton Fucsovics. On the other hand, Eubanks too had a wonderful tournament as he defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas, Cameron Norrie and Christopher O’Connell.

As Wimbledon is all set to culminate soon, it is going to be interesting to see who would win the men’s title. If Djokovic can win this time, it is going to be his eighth title, equal to Roger Federer.

Furthermore, this time the competition can go the other way as well with Alcaraz and Medvedev eying their maiden Wimbledon title. The surprise entry of Sinner adds to the excitement this time as he is having a remarkable time. He could be the star this time if he is able to overcome the Djokovic challenge in the semi-final.
