Rohit Sharma breaks Martin Guptil’s record to achieve the big T20 milestone
Rohit Sharma scored a crucial 64 runs in the first T20I against West Indies to break the record of Martin Guptil and set this big milestone in the shortest format.
Indian skipper Rohit Sharma was in decent touch in the first T20I against West Indies and he went further to play a knock of 64 runs off just 44 balls followed by 7 fours and 2 maximums.
Along the course of this innings, Rohit Sharma moved past Martin Guptil to become the leading run-scorer in the men’s T20Is. Rohit has scored 3443 runs in the shortest format in 129 matches with 27 half centuries and 4 centuries.
On the other hand, Guptil has scored 3399 runs in 116 matches followed by 20 half centuries and 3 centuries. Rohit has an average of 32.48 while Gutpil has an average of 32.37.
The former Indian skipper Virat Kohli stands in the third spot with 3308 runs in 99 matches at a wonderful average of 50.12.
Kohli was the first batsman to reach 3000 runs mark in the T20Is when he achieved the feat in 2021 during the second T20I in the home series against England in Ahmedabad.
The 2000 runs mark was crossed by Guptill’s countryman, Brendon McCullum eight years before. McCullum was also the first one to cross the 1000 runs mark in the format.
Paul Stirling of Ireland stands at the fourth spot with 2894 runs while Australian skipper Aaron Finch is in on the fifth spot with 2855 runs.
In the first T20I between India and West Indies, the former batted first and scored 190/6 in 20 overs. Rohit played a knock of 64 runs while Dinesh Karthik played an unbeaten knock of 41 runs off just 19 balls followed by four boundaries and 2 maximums.
After securing 3-0 in the ODIs, many regular Indian players were part of the squad and the senior players including Rohit Sharma were rested in the series.
“Ready to go. Good to have some time off. Pretty excited to get back and get things underway. The first international game is being played here, good to see the fans coming in large numbers. The facility looks good. Will have to look at how the wicket plays. Few guys have left, and few have come back. Quite excited to get underway,”
said Rohit at the toss.
With the ball in hand, Arshdeep Singh, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Ravi Bishnoi returned with two wickets as India marked a convincing 68-run victory after reducing West Indies to 122/8 in 20 overs.
