Kane Williamson chased down 163 to beat Gujarat Titans by eight wickets

Kane Williamson scored a key 57 as SunRisers Hyderabad chased down the target of 163 to beat Gujarat Titans convincingly by eight wickets at Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy on Monday.

SunRisers Hyderabad snatched the three-match winning streak from Gujarat Titans by eight wickets in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL)  with the skipper, Kane Williamson playing a key knock of 57 as SunRisers Hyderabad chased down the target of 163 at Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy on Monday.

Nicholas Pooran gave the final touch at the finishing moments on Monday and Hardik Pandya’s unbeaten 50 had taken his side to a reasonable target of 162/7 after being asked to bat first but that wasn’t enough as the SRH skipper who scored his first half-century of the season anchored the chase with 5 balls to spare.

SRH recorded their second consecutive victory after beating CSK on Saturday while it was GT’s first defeat after a consecutive streak of three wins.

Williamson laid the foundation alongside Abhishek Sharma who scored 42 off 32 balls. He then stood with Rahul Tripathi who retired hurt at 17 after getting closer to the victory.

Pooran came at the finals moments and enjoyed the party with his power-hitting knock of 34 off 18 after the skipper lost his wicket in the 17th over. His innings were followed by 2 maximums and the same number of boundaries.

He hit the winning runs with a maximum to take his side to 168/2 in 19.1 overs.

Earlier, GT skipper Hardik Pandya played a sensible knock of 50 off 42 balls to help his side post a reasonable target of 162/7 after a terrible collapse of the top-order.

Hardik rotated the strike in partnerships. First, he put a 40 runs stand with David Miller (12) after the top three batters failed to perform and GT were 64/3 after 8 overs.

He then added a 50 runs stand with Abhinav Mahonar who justified his presence with a quick 35 off 21 balls to ensure that the Titans cross the 150-run mark.

Kane Williamson, the skipper, and Player of the Match (SRH):

“It was I thought all in all a good game of cricket. I thought we were good with the ball and so were they…The guys are nice and clear on their roles…It was a fair game of cricket and if you could pick up wickets you could squeeze them a little bit. I think [Tripathi] might just be a cramp. Hopefully, it is minor and he can recover quickly. I’m not quite sure about Washington Sundar but hopefully, he recovers quickly. We’re seeing a variety of surfaces throughout the comp so I’m just trying to adjust.”

Sunrisers Hyderabad 168 for 2 (Williamson 57, Abhishek 42, Pooran 34*, Pandya 1-27) beat Gujarat Titans 162 for 7 (Pandya 50*, Manohar 35, Natarajan 2-34, Bhuvneshwar 2-37) by eight wickets.
