Jasprit Bumrah is in line to be revealed as India’s 36th Test captain

Ace fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is touted to be India’s 36th captain when the team takes the field at Southampton this Friday to complete the Pataudi Trophy 2021 against England, which was left incomplete from last year.

Jasprit Bumrah is expected to be elevated as India’s next captain in place of Rohit Sharma who is in a race against time to make it to the fifth and final Test of the series after being tested positive for the coronavirus.

The Indian team has gone through a massive overhaul since leaving the English shores last year when Virat Kohli was their captain across formats, Ajinkya Rahane was his deputy in the conventional format of the sport and former cricketer Ravi Shastri was the team head coach.

Rohit Sharma is currently the regular captain across formats for India while he has KL Rahul as his deputy in Test cricket, while Rahul Dravid is the incumbent head coach along with a completely different support staff.

It must be remembered that KL Rahul has undergone a groin surgery owing to which he had travelled to Germany recently and he is unavailable for the entire tour of England, which also involves limited-overs matches between the two teams.

India had to leave the Pataudi Trophy 2021 incomplete due to several coronavirus cases in their camp which also involved their former coach Ravi Shastri and some of the other members of the coaching as well as playing staff.

Apart from playing in the fifth and final Test of the series left incomplete last year, India will also be taking on England in a three match T20I series followed by an ODI series for as many matches.
