It has not exactly been postponed; Mr. Barclay will continue to be on the Chair as the ICC Board wants him to complete his full term which is the end of the year

The elections for the Chair-Person of the International Cricket Council (ICC) will be taking place in December 2022 and not now. After a series of meetings that took place in Dubai this week, the administration has decided to postpone the elections till December.

The administration has decided that the elections will be initiated later this year which were initially decided to take place in May-June of this year. This has given the chance to raise hopes for the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI), which is planning to install their candidate for the job.

The elections for the Chair-Person of the International Cricket Council (ICC) will be taking place in December 2022 and not now. After a series of meetings that took place in Dubai this week, the administration has decided to postpone the elections till December.

The official purpose of delaying the election process is that the current chairman, Greg Barclay, is being persuaded to complete his full two-year term by the members of the world body.

After an influential role played by the BCCI 18 months back, the New Zealander Greg Barclay was elected in December 2020 after being engaged in a prolonged fight with Deputy Chair Imran Khwaja then.

“It has not exactly been postponed, Mr. Barclay will continue to be on the Chair as the ICC Board wants him to complete his full term which is the end of the year,”

confirmed multiple sources in the ICC as well as the BCCI.

As per the plans, if the elections were to be held in May-June, the new chairman would have taken the charge by the ICC Annual Conference in July. As sources revealed earlier, there have been contradictions over the exact time when Barclay’s term ends, either in July or in December.

The delay in the elections is going in the favor of the BCCI as it has been hoping that an Indian would be hoping for the Chair of the ICC when the 50-over World Cup Trophy takes place next year. By October, there will be a lot of clarity on who among the current office-bearers of the BCCI can continue.

As reported earlier, the former president Anurag Thakur can be the candidate for the ICC job — and not necessarily the BCCI representative to the world body. The latest development could also bring about further change.
