Anthony Pettis will headline PFL 1 in the 2021 season
MMA promotion the PFL published a full fight card of the first event in the 2021 season – PFL 1. Former UFC contestant Anthony Pettis will headline the tournament.
Pettis goes for the belt and $1 million
Anthony is set to face Clay Collard in the PFL 1 main event. Collard is a professional boxer with a record of 9-3. He began competing in MMA in 2011 and captured the Showdown Fights title 2 years later. Clay transitioned to the UFC in 2014 but retired from the promotion after dropping 2 bouts in a row. Then he signed with the SteelFist Fight Night and won championships at lightweight and welterweight. Collard joined the PFL roster last year to compete in the 2021 season.
Pettis was released from the UFC in December 2020. Showtime struck a deal with the PFL to reboot his MMA career. He will battle for the lightweight title and $1 million prize. Anthony is currently riding on a 2-fight winning streak, while his overall record stands at 24-10.
A lightweight clash between Natan Schulte and Marcin Held has been booked for the PFL 1 co-main event. Natan debuted in the PFL in 2018 and compiled a record of 9-0-1 in the promotion. Schulte earned the vacant PFL title in 2019 by beating Loik Radzhabov. Held transitioned to the PFL from ACA. He won the Bellator Season 10 Lightweight tournament, but failed to achieve success in the UFC.
The main card will be opened by a featherweight bout between 2-time PFL champion Lance Palmer and All-American wrestler Bubba Jenkins. The event will also feature a fight between undefeated featherweights Movlid Khaybulaev and Jason Soares.
