India star opener Ruturaj Gaikwad has been ruled out of the first T20 against Sri Lanka due to a wrist injury sustained during the practice session while he played the last T20 against West Indies.
India star opener Ruturaj Gaikwad has been dropped off the first T20 against Sri Lanka due to a wrist injury sustained during a practice session. Ruturaj played in the last T20 against West Indies where he got out badly.
“Ruturaj Gaikwad complained of pain in his right wrist, which is affecting his batting. He was unavailable for selection for the first T20I. The BCCI Medical Team is examining him,”
BCCI stated in a media release.
Earlier, Suryakumar Yadav and Deepak Chahar are ruled out of the series with fractured wrist and hamstring injuries respectively.
However, Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka won the toss and elected to field in the first T20I of the three-match series against India in Lucknow on Sunday.
India has made many changes to the squad that last played against West Indies with Deepak Hooda being handed his maiden T20I cap.
India pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who was rested for the white-ball series against West Indies, and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who was improving from an injury in the last two months, made a recovery as did Sanju Samson.
India’s main bowlers Yuzvendra Chahal and Bhuvneshwar Kumar also made a place in the playing XI.
India opener Ruturaj Gaikwad, however, missed out after suffering a wrist injury.
For Sri Lanka, Dinesh Chandimal replaced Kusal Mendis, while Jeffrey Vandersay appear for Mahesh Theekshana.
