Tottenham will host Wolverhampton in the English Premier League third-tour match at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The fixture will take place on August 20, beginning at 22:00 IST.

Parimatchnews will tell you everything you need to know ahead of the upcoming match.

Spurs News & Current Form:

The appointment of Antonio Conte as the head coach is certainly the best thing that has happened to the club in recent times, firstly it has already shown the results (he was able to take the team into the UEFA Champions League), and secondly, the spending of the club shows the confidence of the management in the Italian.

Before, nobody understood why Antonio goes from Inter, who had just taken the Scudetto, to the club, which was apparently in crisis – but now a different picture is emerging. A completely different set of ambitions. Many believe that with this squad, the Londoners will now be able to put even Manchester City under considerable pressure.

And Antonio Conte’s team have shown high promise in the opening two rounds. Following their 4-1 defeat of Southampton, Spurs were to head to the London derby against Chelsea. We saw a hugely entertaining encounter with a dramatic finish at Stamford Bridge as Tottenham managed to snatch a draw in the final seconds. Furthermore, the tension was so high that Thomas Tuchel and Antonio Conte almost got into a fistfight at the end of the match, receiving red cards and being fined. Nevertheless, Tuchel has no hard feelings, saying it is just a game and emotions because everyone wants to win.

Remarkably, we did not see a single player of the Purple-White side in those games. Antonio Conte thoughtfully put his trust in the time-tested players. The specialist noted that he is happy with the newcomers, but also stated that they will have to fight for a place in the starting line-up. The approach is undoubtedly wise.

But another thing was noticed by everyone. Last season, Antonio Conte rarely used substitutions. He made them predominantly after the 80th minute, making it clear to the club’s management that he lacked depth. At Stamford Bridge, the Italian made four substitutions, the first of which came on 57 minutes. It seems the Italian specialist finally felt he had the necessary resources to make different tactical moves and thus influence the course of the game.

Wolves News & Current Form:

The previous meeting between the teams came at a time when Wolves were at the peak of their form. Brun Lage’s side made a strong start to 2022, bidding to qualify for the Champions League at the time. However, the Oranges suffered the expected slump from there onwards, which led to a slump to a final tenth place. That said, they have not picked up a single win in the last seven rounds.

To finish in the top half of the standings is the minimum target for Wolverhampton this season. However, it was already clear from the opening rounds that achieving this objective will be incredibly difficult for the Wolves. In two games Bruno Lage’s charges have managed to get only one point, and that was largely due to Jose Sa, who saved a penalty in the game against EPL newcomer Fulham. Perhaps it was precisely this circumstance that compelled the club’s management to enter the transfer market. After Gonçalo Guedes, who had already made his debut for Wolves in the previous matchday, another Portuguese player – Mateus Nunes – was brought on board. The central midfielder’s transfer from Sporting cost Wolverhampton FC €47.5m.

Such an expensive purchase is not made for nothing, with young talent Morgan Gibbs-White leaving the club for Nottingham Forest, €50.5m including bonuses – the most expensive sale in club history after Diogo Jota. The Jamaican-born Englishman has become a record signing for a freshly promoted Foresterts.

Besides that, Wolverhampton’s leader Adama Traore returned from a loan spell. Fabio Silva (on loan for the season) and Conor Coady (on loan for the season with a buyout option) also left the team. His place was taken by Nathan Collins, who was bought from Burnley. Wolves were also able to bag €10.00m for Rúben Vinagre, who has failed to prove himself at the Molineux Stadium.

Bruno Lage’s side have also had a poor start to pre-season. Wolves have not won a single game in their last three friendlies. They suffered a 1-2 defeat at the hands of Villarreal B, a 1-1 draw at Sporting and a 1-1 draw at the little-known Farense.

What has been said before the match:

Antonio Conte, the Spurs gaffer:

“First of all, we are talking about a really good team and a good club, a club that in the last week has signed two important players like Guedes from Valencia and then Nunes from Sporting Lisbon. It means that they have a lot of ambition, I have a great respect for Wolverhampton and their players, Ruben Neves and many, many good players with a good coach, I give great respect to them because they are doing very well and for sure the game will be difficult for us. The recent past is also important for us, to understand that the game, it won’t be easy tomorrow.”

“A team with ambition, you have to think to win in every game, and, for sure, when you play at home, you have to exploit the support of our fans and the atmosphere around the stadium. At home, it’s very important to create the right atmosphere to make it difficult for our opponent. It will be a difficult game against Wolves but, at the same time, we are ready to play a good game in front of our fans.”

Jonny Otto, the Wolves defenfer:

“It was difficult because you always want to win of course and even more in the first game at our home. We had a lot of chances for make a goal for us to score. When this doesn’t happen, it’s difficult for us, but now we just need to keep going for Tottenham.”

“We, of course, will go there to battle, to fight, to play well, to go there to play our football, play well, and when face to face, try to win the game.”

Spurs vs Wolves Prediction:

Under Antonio Conte’s leadership, Tottenham are making great progress and delighting their fans with excellent results. The Italian manager has added a number of talents to the squad during the off-season and spent a nice full pre-season with them, which now gives him clarity to use every player right.

A rather shaky Wolverhampton comes into this match in poor form, having scored just four goals in their last five games. Spurs are going to dominate in the upcoming encounter, especially with the support of the home stands. Moreover, in their previous two face-offs the opponents have netted six goals, we expect bright, productive football this time as well, but only from the home side.
