RB Leipzig will host FC Union Berlin in the Bundesliga 20th-tour match at Red Bull Arena Stadium. The fixture will take place on Saturday, February 11, beginning at 23:00 IST.

Get ready for an electrifying showdown in the 20th-round central match of the German championship as Leipzig gear up to take on the high-flying Union Berlin!

The Red Bulls took time to adjust to Marco Rosé’s philosophy, but now they appear to be in good form and ready to fight for the top places.

Meanwhile, Union have risen from their November slumber, with four consecutive wins propelling them to the forefront of the title race, hot on the heels of perennial champions FC Bayern.

The stage is set for a tantalizing battle, as the two sides gear up to lock horns and test each other’s mettle. A victory for either opponent will pose problems for Bayern. Either Union will remain their closest challenger, maintaining a 1-point deficit, or RB Leipzig, the most stable team in the Bundesliga after Rose’s appointment, will continue their incredible run, putting the throne at risk.

What can we expect this Saturday night? Parimatch News will tell you everything you need to know ahead of the upcoming match.

RB Leipzig News & Current Form:

It is very interesting to watch the development and progress of RB Leipzig. Some 7 years ago the Bulls played in the second strongest league in Germany, and now the team is one of the best clubs in Europe and a perennial contender for the title. Amazing progress and development, which can only be envied.

The Red Bulls continue to contend even for the championship this season, despite the fact that at the moment they occupy only 4th place in the standings and 36 points under their belt. The density is very high, so any win can move up a few positions, while a loss can drop a few positions down.

In recent matches, RB Leipzig made a good run. However, the last round against FC Cologne (0-0) slowed them down, but before that there were victories over VfB Stuttgart (2-1) and FC Schalke 04 (6-1), as well as a draw against FC Bayern Munich (1-1) and the DFB-Pokal victory over TSG Hoffenheim (3-1).

RB’s also continue their fight in the German Cup, where they have already advanced to the quarterfinals, and in the UEFA Champions League, where they will play against Manchester City FC in the 1/8 finals of the tournament.

Nevertheless, Leipzig has lost all of its last four Bundesliga games against Union. The Cup winners do not have such a sobering anti-record against any other club in the top flight.

If the team from Leipzig does not lose on Saturday, it will be their 19th consecutive match without defeat. In this way, Marco Rose has become the record holder among coaches if you count only games since reaching the first division.

Leipzig’s main distinguishing feature is its crazy attack. This season, the Bulls have scored 39 goals in the league, plus 13 in the Champions League. The 39 goals scored puts the Bulls among the top three attacking teams in the league.

But having a great attack Bulls often concede and have problems in defense. To call Leipzig a defensive team is impossible, the Bulls score a lot and concede a lot in defense. This season Leipzig scored at least 2 goals in a game with Leipzig in 18 of 19 games.

Coach Rose commented on the current state of injured Christopher Nkunku:

“Overall, things are looking good for Christo. He is working hard on the pitch every day and doing everything he can in individual training. He will have another check up and then we will decide together where we stand. His recovery is going very well.”

“We’ve been testing it out this week and we want to introduce him into full team training next week. After a full week of training, the plan is to have him back playing games.”

Union Berlin News & Current Form:

The team from the capital of Germany is performing very well in the current Bundesliga season. The Iron Ones are currently in second place in the standings with 39 points and only one point behind leading Bayern. Urs Fischer’s charges are fighting for the championship and are serious.

Union Berlin currently have five wins in a row in all competitions. Players of Union  have only won yet in 2023. Hoffenheim (3:1), SV Werder Bremen (2:1), Hertha BSC (2:0), VfL Wolfsburg (2:1) and Mainz 05 (2:1) have been defeated.

Fischer’s team continues to perform on three fronts. The Berliners reached the German Cup quarterfinals and the UEFA Europa League 1/16 finals, where their opponent will be AFC Ajax from Amsterdam.

The game against Leipzig is also crucial for Union, because last season they were just one point short of the cherished fourth place, which was sealed by Leipzig. In the current campaign it could easily happen again, but vice versa. Already Berlin could leave Leipzig without top places. The hosts are clearly stronger in terms of names, but the losses due to injuries to Christopher Nkunku and Dani Olmo make the chances more equal.

Union Berlin now has an 11-match winning streak in all competitions. The team looks very strong offensively having managed to score in 16 out of 19 matches.

If the Berliners are doing quite well in the attack, the defense has certain difficulties and problems. This is especially evident in away games. In 10 away games in the Bundesliga, Union conceded 15 goals.

What has been said before the match:

Marco Rose speaks ahead of Saturday evening’s game:

“Union have developed into a secure Bundesliga side and always make good decisions in the transfer market. They sign players who fit their philosophy and the club; they bring a lot of identification and passion with them.”

“They have a coach who knows how to get the best out of his players and organize them well so they’re hard to create chances against. Union are very effective in front of goal and on the whole play some very good football.”

“Union play a little differently and operate with more passes in behind and longer balls, but they also know how to play with the ball on the ground. So we have some work to do.”

“You have to be good in every area to beat Union. We have to take on the challenge and deal with anything that comes our way.”

Union head coach Urs Fischer said on press conference ahead of the fixture:

“Marco Rose has done a great job and got his team back on track. They are very flexible in their systems, and variable in their play. Against their strong, decisive players, with their high speed and their good pressing, we need to have an exceptionally good day. It is also difficult to break free from their pressing. But if Leipzig may not have their very best day in the end, that helps us too.”

RB Leipzig vs Union Berlin Prediction:

It can be argued that, with the optimal starting line-up, Leipzig are already overpowering Union. Marco Rosé’s men are now defending well on the standards, and a clear positional structure and quality counter-pressing will not allow the Berlin side to be as brazen on the counter as they were in the first leg. Plus, Union are consistently underperforming on the road, and Leipzig have only once left the field with less than two goals scored at the Red Bull Arena under Rosa.

However, there is reason to believe that Urs Fischer’s side will cause Leipzig a lot of trouble. If you look at Marco Rosé’s unbeaten streak, there have only been two opponents from the top six of the Bundesliga standings. Union are the most dangerous opponent in this stretch. And the Berlin side have a proven track record against Leipzig.

In essence, there’s only one factor in favour of the home side – the home walls. And there are enough problems in general, for example, with the squad. For example, Gulaci, Nkunku, Diallo, Olmo will not take part in the upcoming game. The hosts have a wide bench, but their losses are still tangible. Furthermore, Union are uncomfortable for the Leipzig side of late: the teams have met six times since 2021, with Berlin coming out on top in four games.
