Pep Guardiola was named The Best Manager of January as his team won six matches with a total score of 16:1
In a surprise to no-one given Manchester City’s incredible recent form, Pep Guardiola has been named Premier League manager of the month for January.
Spaniard has made it an awards double for Manchester City after winning January’s Barclays Manager of the Month award. The Spaniard adds to the EA SPORTS Player of the Month prize given to midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, after leading Man City to the top of the table with six wins from six in the league.
Guardiola’s men also secured nine victories in all competitions during January, the most by any club in a calendar month in English Football League history.
The 50-year-old won after votes from the public were combined with those of a panel of football experts, beating Mikel Arteta, David Moyes and Graham Potter.
City are currently on a 15-game winning run in all competitions and are unbeaten in 22 matches, with our last defeat coming on November 21, 2020 at Tottenham.
Pep shared his thoughts after winning the award:
“What this team achieved in January – winning all our games, despite all the restrictions we face – is remarkable. This just shows how focused my players and staff are. They are incredible, and I am so proud to work alongside them. Every single person involved deserves huge credit.”
He has now won the Barclays award eight times, matching the total earned by Jurgen Klopp, Martin O’Neill and Harry Redknapp.
