A talented player seems to have ruined his career

Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood, arrested on suspicion of rape, assault, sexual abuse with death threats, has been released on bail until further investigation.

Recall that the 20-year-old player was arrested at his Cheshire home over the weekend after a series of photos and videos were posted on social media, allegedly by the player’s ex-girlfriend Harriet Robson, claiming she had been abused.

The player was initially taken into custody and taken to a police station for a detailed interrogation. On Tuesday, Greater Manchester Police additionally reported the arrest of a 20-year-old man on suspicion of sexual assault and death threats, and he was questioned again. Police did not officially name the detainee.

In an update released Wednesday morning, a police spokesman said:

“A 20-year-old man arrested (on Sunday 30 January 2022) on suspicion of the rape and assault of a woman has been released on bail pending further investigation”

So Greenwood spent three days in custody, the amount of bail was not disclosed.

The player reportedly increased security measures after that. There are now two private security guards on duty at the entrance to the house, and previously a specialist in security systems came there and installed a video surveillance system.

“We had a good, regular training week. We had five sessions, counting today’s. Of course, the Greenwood situation was a topic of discussion on the team, but players are people, too, and Mason was part of the lineup before the winter break. Like I said, practices have been going on as usual, under normal conditions. We are looking forward to tomorrow’s match”

commented Ralf Rangnick, saying that the incident affected the team a little bit.

Moreover, on February 1, EA removed Mason Greenwood from the Manchester United squad in FIFA 22. At the same time, the player has remained in the Ultimate Team mode – gamers began to buy up his card in large quantities, thus increasing the price of the player.

Now Konami has responded to the situation. The publisher has decided to remove the player from all of their football simulators: eFootball 2021, eFootball 2022 and PES 2021 Mobile.

“In light of the serious allegations made against Mason Greenwood, we have decided to remove the player from our soccer simulators until further notice. In the mobile version of PES 2021 users will no longer be able to get an athlete from the in-game kits. Soccer card holders will not be affected by this decision. Konami condemns any kind of violence. While the police investigation is ongoing, other comments will be inappropriate.”

the Japanese company reported.

Ultimately, both EA and Konami will wait until the proceedings are over – until then, Greenwood will definitely not return to the games.

  • Yongster Greenwood has played for Manchester United’s main team since 2018.
