Manchester City will host Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium in the 32th round of the English Premier League. The match will take place on April 10, beginning at 21:00 IST.

And so, the fate of the Premier League title could be decided this coming Sunday at the Etihad Stadium.

Manchester City retain their lead in the table overall, while Liverpool are trailing their direct rival by one point. At the same time, both teams were successful in the Champions League quarter finals this week.

“Liverpool versus Manchester City has become the greatest, most intense and highest quality rivalry in English football history. There is a uniqueness to it. This is the first time the two best teams in England are the two best teams in the world, led by the two greatest coaches of their generation.”

said Jamie Carragher in anticipation of the match.

The teams approach the encounter with all their weapons: everyone from both camps is available for the match. Only Ruben Dias is questionable because of an injury. The best stars of the league will take the field.

It is obvious that the results that currently show Jurgen Klopp’s charges give reason to believe that the guests will put a lot of effort to get the points, although the hosts have more chances.

So what should we expect from this duel? Parimatchnews will tell you everything you need to know ahead of the upcoming match.

Manchester City News & Current Form:

Josep Guardiola’s team leads the EPL with 73 points after 30 games. The Citizens have 23 wins, 4 draws and 3 defeats.

Manchester City has an advantage over all opponents in the table, although in recent rounds, the Citizens have lost points more than once. The reigning English champions drew with Southampton (1-1) and Crystal Palace (0-0) on the road and lost at home to Tottenham (2-3). These missteps have exacerbated the Premiership title race to the limit.

Guardiola’s players are busy in two more tournaments. In the FA Cup, City reached the 1/2 finals, where they face Liverpool, while in the Champions League, the Citizens are facing Atletico Madrid in the quarterfinals. The first leg at the Etihad ended in a 1-0 win for the home side on April 5.

Liverpool News & Current Form:

Jurgen Klopp’s team ranks second in the table with 72 points. The Reds have 22 wins, six draws and two defeats after 30 rounds.

Liverpool have been working hard in recent weeks to win back the gap from City. Motivated by this goal, Klopp’s men have amassed a maximum of 30 points in the past 10 rounds. The last time the Reds failed to win in the EPL was in an away match against Chelsea on January 2 (2:2).

The Merseysiders are also in contention for a treble this season, as they retain their chances of winning the FA Cup and Champions League. On April 5, Liverpool defeated Benfica Lisbon (3-1) on the road in the first leg of the quarterfinals, making a convincing claim to qualify for the next round of the playoffs.

Statistical preview of the match Manchester City vs Liverpool:

  • Liverpool’s winning streak in the EPL is now ten games.
  • During that stretch, the Merseysiders scored 25 goals and conceded only two.
  • In five previous matches, Man City had twice played to a 0-0 draw.

What has been said before the match:

Pep Guardiola reflected on how competition helps both teams develop:

“When you achieve 100 points and after 98 points, you need someone to push you from behind to make you realise they are there and they are close. You have to make another step, that’s for sure. I don’t know what Liverpool is going to do but knowing the club and our chairman and CEO we want to grow and I am pretty sure we want to be there more years. I am pretty sure Liverpool and other teams are going to try and do it as well.

“For both teams the most credit I give is the consistency through the years for many years. It is not winning one Premier League. It has been five years every three days. That is what I am proud of most.”

“I will always remember the time here when I am retired and I will remember the biggest opponent was Liverpool. We played many times. Jose [Mourinho] is an exceptional manager, and of course I was his rival in Barcelona, but here it is more years. I have been here five years and played many times. All the time we were close. I faced Jurgen one year in Bayern Munich. Every season, except the year we made 100 points and they did 99 two seasons later, the rest it was tight. Always we control each other because they are good and hopefully they think we are good too.”

Jurgen Klopp:

“I know how people see us and them – yes, they talk about us as a good team and all these kind of things, but City is considered as the best football team in the world and they got one more point than us, what does that say exactly? To be 100 per cent honest, I think they are the best football team in the world but they have only one point more than us in this time, so obviously we did something right. I know that and I am happy about that, but it would be better if we had 20 points more in that period, then we probably would have one more title or one more [piece of] silverware and all these kind of things. It’s all fine how it is, that’s the basis we created so let’s go from there.”

he reflected on the rivalry.

“The game should be a good one. I know that very often it doesn’t happen when two top teams face each other but I think our history with City shows that very often it was a pretty interesting watch because both teams really go for it and want to create opportunities, want to create chances, want to use momentum, want to use gaps, situations and all these kind of things. So, that’s why I expect an interesting football game, to be honest.”

“A very important game, I’m really looking forward to it, one of the biggest challenges you can face in football, but that’s really nice, that’s why you do these kinds of things. Imagine we would still be 14 or 15 points behind, it would still be a great game but a lack of something – meaning less and these kind of things. So, it’s good. We qualified for a great game with the season we played so far and I’m really happy we can be part of it. I can imagine a lot of people will watch it and we give it a try, that’s all I can say.”

Manchester City vs Liverpool Prediction:

A true game of the strongest awaits the fans, but, as is often the case, the two teams in super form are not weak enough to lose. There is no gap in class between City and Liverpool, and the only thing on the side of the Citizens is a traditionally successful home performance. But the Reds are capable of counterbalancing any deficit. The home team’s tiredness could be instrumental to the Merseysiders’ success. Liverpool put less energy into the game against openly playing Benfica than the City, who were piercing Atletico’s potent defense the entire match. Klopp has saved Mane and Salah for Sunday’s game, and that could help the Reds score points at the Etihad.

We are confident that both teams will be able to score goals, but the winner of the game is not obvious, maybe the teams can settle for a draw, as they have done in previous matches.
