East Bengal has signed Nigerian striker Daniel Chima Chukwu on a one-year deal until the end of the 2021-22 Indian Super League season.

After signing for the Red and Gold Brigade, Chukwu said,

“I am happy to be part of such a prestigious club. I want to help SC East Bengal win as many matches as possible,”

Chima said after signing for the 100-year old club.

“I have won titles in Norway and worked with some of the best coaches in the business.”

The 30-year old striker also talked about using his experience in the correct manner and feels that the ISL is the right move for him at this point in time.

He continued,

“I will look to use my experience and help my teammates get better. I am also looking forward to working with our coaching staff. I was looking for a new challenge, and India excited me. The Indian Super League is growing, and I thought it would be the right move.”

Chima started his career with Norweigian club Lyn and scored 4 goals in 11 appearances before the club went bankrupt and Molde signed the young talent in the midst of the 2010 Tippeligaen season.

In his first five-year stint with Molde, Chima made a name for himself in European football as he scored 40 goals and provided 21 assists in 142 appearances for the club. Molde won the league thrice and the NM Cup twice with Chima lifting a total of 5 trophies in his first stint with the club.

In 2015, Molde sold Chima to Chinese Super League club Shanghai Shenxin and the striker was an instant hit in Asia as he scored 21 goals and provided 13 assists in 49 league appearances.

After a brief and disappointing spell with Legia Warsaw, the Nigerian striker had his dream return to Molde where he shined in their Europa League campaign but was soon loaned out to Chinese club Heilongjiang Lava Spring before permanently signing for fellow Chinese club Taizhou Yuanda.

Chima would have big boots to fill at SC East Bengal as Bright Enobakhare has left the club to play in Europe once again and his countryman Daniel Chima Chukwu will be taking on the mantle at the Red and Gold Brigade in the 2021-22 ISL season.
