Bangladesh opener, Tamim Iqbal thinks of getting some break during the ODI series against Zimbabwe to recover from a recent knee injury against Sri Lanka Tests.

It has been noticed that Tamim Iqbal has not participated in the practice session on Tuesday and is unlikely to feature in the only Test match against Zimbabwe. However, Mominul Haque insisted that they will wait till the final moment to call on his availability.

Although, Tamim is determined to take part in the ODI’s against the hosts considering that it is a part of the ICC ODI World Cup Super League.

The 32-year-old has suffered from the injury during the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka in April-May. Still, he decided to host the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka and even took part in ICC ODI World Cup Super League but had to quit the tournament midway after hurting the knee.

As a result, Tamim Iqbal was not included in the playing XI of an only practice match against Zimbabwe to get the recovery. Although, he batted in the second innings to score an 18 ball 30.

Tamim had consulted the Australian surgeon David Young to get professional advice and he advised him a long rest. It is also possible that the left-hander could skip the home T20I’s against Australia and New Zealand to get himself proper recovery for England’s tour, where he is expected to lead Bangladesh in ODI’s.

“Recovery will take time,”

said Tamim Tuesday.

“(Skipping T20Is) will depend on how I cope with the pain in the series and then the medical team will make a call.”

The Bangladesh management had recently received an update on Tamim’s injury which states that the opener has a grade one tear. According to the medical report sent to the team management, Tamim Iqbal needs a rest for a certain amount of time.

“Tamim’s injury is not something that requires surgery. If he rests for some time we are hoping that he will fine because everything depends on the reduction of his pain and to make that happen rest is the only ‘treatment’ for him.”

BCB chief physician Debashish Chowdhury quoted.

“But if he continues to play with the pain without being cured then the level of injury may increase and surgery may be required and in that case, he may have to go off the field for a long time. So we need to make sure that the injury is healed totally.”
