Delhi Capitals players have suffered a Covid-19 tested positive in the ongoing Indian Premier League while Franchise will be playing their next clash without the head coach Ricky Ponting against Rajasthan Royals on Friday.

Delhi Capitals’ two players Mitchell Marsh and Tim Seifert had suffered a Covid-19 test positive ahead of the game against Punjab Kings in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). 

While Delhi Capitals put in a dominating performance against Punjab Kings and they went on to register a nine-wicket victory to seal the sixth position in the points table. 

However, Delhi Capitals, who have been bogged down by multiple positive cases in their camp, will be without their head coach Ricky Ponting for the IPL clash against Rajasthan Royals on Friday after a family tested positive, the team said in a media statement ahead of the game at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. 

According to the franchise, Ponting himself has tested negative twice but will remain in isolation for five days as he was a close contact.

“A family member of Delhi Capitals Head Coach Ricky Ponting has tested positive for COVID. The family has now been moved into an isolation facility and is being well taken care of,”

Delhi Capitals said in a statement.

“Ponting himself has tested negative twice subsequently. However, in the best interest of the team, the management and medical team have decided that he will remain in isolation for five days, as he was a close contact. He will, therefore, not be present at the ground for tonight’s game against Rajasthan Royals. The franchise requests for Ponting and his family’s privacy to be respected in the current scenario.”

“The condition of all individuals in the bubble who have tested positive so far is being closely monitored. The team looks forward to everyone’s speedy recovery,”

the statement added.

Earlier, ahead of the DC clash against Punjab Kings on Wednesday, the IPL announced that DC had registered a 6th Covid-19 case.

At the time, it was announced that DC’s clash against Rajasthan Royals on Friday will be shifted from the MCA stadium in Pune to the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai “as a precautionary measure”.

“The change of venue has been triggered due to (then) five COVID-19 positive cases in the Delhi Capitals contingent,”

BCCI said in a statement on Tuesday.

Delhi Capitals are in the sixth position in the point table while they have won three matches out of their sixth games.
