India was to resume from their dominating position of 272/3 but persistent rain interruptions forced the umpires to call off the days at 14:00 local time without even a ball being bowled.

No play was possible on day 2 of the first Test match between South Africa and India at Centurion Park on Monday as heavy and consistent rain brought frustration for both sides in the three-match Test series.

India was to resume from their dominating position of 272/3 but persistent rain interruptions forced the umpires to call off the days at 14:00 local time without even a ball being bowled.

The weather forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday is expected to be better but India needs to quicken their pace of scoring runs in the first innings if they want to gain the benefit of their current position.

Indian opener KL Rahul showcased superb innings on Sunday as he made an unbeaten 122 and when the play resumes on Tuesday he will be joined by Ajinkiya Rahane who is playing on 40.

India will be currently looking to post a big total and to bat only once in this Test match if they want to keep their winning quest alive after the loss of a complete day.

South Africa will also be looking to wrap up the Indian innings quickly on the third day but will have to put in a lot better than what they did on Sunday when only seamer Lungi Ngidi (3-45) was among the wicket-takers.

Meanwhile, India will be aiming to get their first Test series to win in South Africa with matches in Johannesburg and Cape Town to follow.
