Lucknow Super Giants crush Punjab Kings by 20 runs

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) thrashed Punjab Kings (PBKS) by 20 runs in the 42nd league round match of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 tournament, played at the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium in Pune on Friday night.
The victory powered one of the two new IPL teams, Lucknow Super Giants, to the third spot in the IPL 2022 points table which is currently headed by the other new side, Gujarat Titans.
Despite losing their run machine in captain KL Rahul early in the innings, the LSG side did well to dig in and posted a strong total of 153/8 in their 20 overs. In reply, the Punjab Kings once again produced a poor performance with the bat, scoring 133/8 in their 20 overs and lost their third contest in the last five IPL 2022 matches.
LSG bowlers Dushmantha Chameera and Mohsin Khan were the heroes of their win as they contributed with both bat and the ball. Sri Lanka’s Dushmantha Chameera made 17 from 10 balls with 2 sixes whereas the uncapped Indian, Mohsin Khan scored 13 not out from 6 balls with a four and a six to push their total of 153/8.
Among the other contributors in the Lucknow Super Giants’ innings were opening batsman Quinton de Kock, who top-scored with 46 from 37 balls with the help of 4 fours and 2 sixes while the right-handed Indian batting all-rounder Deepak Hooda, who came out at number three after KL Rahul was dismissed for 6, made 34 from 28 balls with 2 sixes and a four.
For the losing side Punjab, their South African fast bowler Kagiso Rabada was the most impressive with the ball, recording figures of 4-0-38-4. Kagiso Rabada dismissed KL Rahul, Krunal Pandya (7), Ayush Badoni (4) and Dushmantha Chameera on Friday.
The Punjab batsmen were guilty of batting poorly once again as their captain Mayank Agarwal played one shot too many, falling for 25 from 17 balls and their star left-handed opener Shikhar Dhawan scored 5.
Punjab’s wicketkeeper-batsman Jonny Bairstow made 32 from 28 balls with the help of 5 fours, but there were not too many of those who followed that made any difference.
The English cricketer Liam Livingstone fell after getting a start to make 18 from 16 balls while Rishi Dhawan scored an unbeaten 21 from 22 balls with 3 fours and a six but their side fell short by a big margin.
Mohsin Khan was the pick among the bowlers for Lucknow Super Giants, taking 3/24 from his 4 overs which also included a maiden whereas Dushmantha Chameera was at the top of his game, returning with 4-0-17-2. Also impressive for LSG was Krunal Pandya, who took 2/11 from his 4 overs.
