Islamabad United squeezed a one-run victory over Kings in the final over thriller of PSL
Islamabad United won the match by 1 run even their two key bowlers Shadab Khan and Zeeshan Zameer were forced off the field with injuries while Karachi had out of the mega event by losing their seven consecutively matches.
Karachi Kings had won the toss and elected to field first. When Islamabad was put in to bat, their innings went well, as you’d expect Islamabad innings to go. United opener Gurbaz hits two sixes in the first over but after that, he couldn’t play some sensational innings and lost his wicket. Then, Mir Hamza sent the Muhammad Ikhlaq to the pavilion and took another wicket for United.
Alex Hales and Shadab Khan were in splendid touch and try to control the situation by playing an incredible inning. It was Umaid Asif who broke their partnership and provide a great breakthrough for the team.
Faheem Ashraf and Asif Ali bombard a 57 off a combined 21 balls at the death as United attacked 78 off the final six overs.
A couple of hours later, they would need every single one of those as they just about held off a bright king’s side, and shored up their hopes of playoff qualification in the process.
Islamabad United had set a total of 191-7 after the end of its innings.
Chasing 192, King’s were given a boost when two key United bowlers, Shadab Khan and Zeeshan Zameer were forced off the field with injuries. After these major missing, the only thing Karachi needed was to bide their time, stay in the game, and target whoever bowled the other overs.
Asif Ali bowl three overs and took two wickets in his first over. He removed Sharjeel Khan off a rank long hop with his first ball and cleaned up Mohammad Nabi four deliveries later.
Then, Pakistan U-19 Skipper Qasim Akram and Imad Wasim played some sensational innings and try to overcome the situation. Qasim rode his luck to score an unbeaten 51 off 26 while Imad Wasim smashed 55 off 28, both capitalizing on United losing their discipline on the field.
Karachi needed eight runs in the final over and a boundary off the second ball brought it down to a run a ball but two wickets took the game right down to the final delivery, of which the kings needed two.
Jordan was inches short of the popping crease that would have guaranteed the kings a super over and United sealed the match by 1 run.
Islamabad United 191 for 7 (Shadab 34, Asif 28, Imad 2-30) beat Karachi Kings 190 for 8 (Imad 55, Qasim 51, Maqsood 3-34) by one run.
