BCB president Nazmul Hasan said on Wednesday that all-rounder Shakib al Hasan could miss the upcoming ODI series against West Indies while he revealed that he would welcome seniors enjoying reprieves from series that were not part of ICC occasions.

Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hasan said on Wednesday that all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan could miss the upcoming ODI series against West Indies. He is likely to be replaced by Taijul Islam.

Cricbuzz had described that Shakib probably won’t be available for the ODI series against West Indies considering it isn’t essential for the ICC super League.

“I didn’t have a word with Shakib. Before the tour, I heard that Shakib wouldn’t play Tests. But he went there as captain and played the series.”

”Shakib said before going (to West Indies) said that he won’t play Test and will play one day and T20. After sitting with me he said that he will play the Test and later he was made the captain. I heard that he told Jalal Bhai( BCB’s cricket operation chairman) that he might not play in the ODI series and that he had said so earlier,”

Nazmul told reporters on Wednesday.

”Because he hasn’t spoken with the board officially probably I will understand it after talking to them by today or tomorrow. But you can take that as unofficial considering he had informed (about his decision) earlier,”

he said.

Nazmul revealed that he would welcome seniors enjoying reprieves from series that were not part of ICC occasions thinking about that will clear the way for the board to test their seat strength.

”If seniors want a break from games that are not part of ICC events (ICC Test Championship and ODI Super League) that that is good. We can see the new cricketers and whether we have players in their place or not. Thinking everything we have it in mind that they (seniors) need to be given break,”

he said.

However, Nazmul said that the board had decided to form a working group to oversee the domestic first-class structure. The domestic cricket structure came up in the conversation table following the new disaster in Test cricket.

”We have decided to form a working group to oversee our domestic first-class cricket,”

said Nazmul

”They are already preparing three proposals and will give them to us, and later we will see their recommendation,”

he added.

Bangladesh will play three T20Is on July 2, 3, and 7, before the ODIs on July 10, 13, and 16.
