Devon Conway, Sophie Ecclestone named the ICC player of the month for June
ICC nominated New Zealand opener, Devon Conway and England’s Sophie Ecclestone as the player of the month for June, following their brilliant performances.
At the start of this year, ICC introduced the best performance awards for both Male and Female cricketers across all formats of International Cricket. For June, New Zealand Devon Conway and England spinner Sophie Ecclestone have been nominated the best player of the month.
Devon Conway was awarded the ICC player of the month for his outstanding performance in the debut test against England. He scored a double century on debut at Lord’s.
“I’m truly honored to win this award. That I have received it for my performances in Test cricket makes it special,”
said Conway.
“Scoring a double Century at Lord’s was a dream come true for me and to have also been able to contribute to our win over India in the ICC world test championship Final is something that I know I will proudly look back on in years to come,”
he said.
England spinner Sophie Ecclestone received the award for her outstanding performance against India. At Bristol in the one-off test against India, she took eight wickets and received the award in the women’s category.
After Tammy Beaumont, Sophie Ecclestone becomes the second English female to claim the ICC women’s player of the month award.
“It’s nice to win this award. It’s after a period in which we have played all three formats so it feels good to be recognized for my performances in the test and the white ball series,”
said Ecclestone.
“We have been happy as a team how we have performed across this series. We would have like to have won the test match but hopefully, we can clinch the multi-format series,”
she added.
“It’s all crucial preparation for the ICC women’s cricket world cup in New Zealand when we’ll be defending the title we won in 2017, and we feel in a decent place as a team,”
Ecclestone concluded.
The power-hitter, Shafali Verma was nominated for player of the match effort of 96 and 63 on debut in Bristol and some crucial runs in the two subsequent ODI’s.
Sneh Rana’s performance in the second innings at Bristol included a brilliant 80* that ultimately saved the defeat as well as picking four wickets in the match.
