Australia vs New Zealand 3rd ODI: Preview and Prediction

к
New Zealand crumbled like a pack of cards against Australia in the second ODI

After beating New Zealand in back-to-back encounters, Australia will be looking to sweep the ODI series when they lock horns with each other at the Cazalys Stadium in Cairns.

While Australia won the first encounter by the skin of their teeth, they showed no mercy on New Zealand in the second encounter which turned out to be a one-sided affair.

Steve Smith’s patient knock of 61 runs off 94 deliveries helped Australia post 195 runs on the board while batting first in conditions conducive to bowling. In reply, New Zealand could muster only 82 runs.

Adam Zampa scalped five wickets while the trio of Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and Sean Abbott pressurised the Kiwi batters with their seam bowling.

Cameron Green can return to play the third ODI

Cameron Green limped off the field while securing Australia’s win in the first ODI and the all-rounder may make his way back in the playing eleven in place of Marcus Stoinis.

New Zealand’s woes in the top order continued and Glenn Phillips could replace Devon Conway to arrest the slide. Ben Sears, who got the nod ahead of Ish Sodhi in the series, could replace James Neesham in the starting line-up to get some much-needed playing time in Australian conditions.

Head to Head record

Australia has won 94 ODI encounters against New Zealand while the latter has gained the upper hand only 39 times. Seven ODI’s ended in no contests between the two sides.

Australia holds a commanding lead over New Zealand with 93 wins against the latter’s 39. A total of seven ODIs between the two sides ended in a draw.

New Zealand’s last win against Australia in Australia in an ODI came way back in 2011.

Key Players

Trent Boult: Boult was once again phenomenal with the new ball as he scalped four wickets from his quota of 10 overs. Having struck a formidable partnership with Matt Henry, Boult would be eager to inflict more damage this time around.

Steve Smith: Smith was the lone player to score a half-century in the second ODI on a bowling-friendly pitch. With five fours and one six, Smith would aim for the century this time.

Predicted Playing XI

Australia: David Warner, Aaron Finch, Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, Cameron Green, Alex Carey, Glenn Maxwell, Sean Abbott, Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa, Josh Hazlewood

New Zealand: Glenn Phillips, Martin Guptill, Kane Williamson, Tom Latham, Daryl Mitchell, Michael Bracewell, Ben Sears, Tim Southee, Matt Henry, Mitchell Santner, Trent Boult

Prediction

Australia is in fine form in the bilateral series and will be raring to go all out against a beleaguered New Zealand side. The away team has failed to understand the pitch conditions with the bat. Hence, we predict another Australia win
