Joseph Dave ‘Joe’ Gomez is an English defender of Liverpool, a pupil of Charlton, was born on 23 May 1997 in London.

Joe is a graduate of the Charlton Athletic Football Academy, for whose youth team he made his debut in 2010 (at age 13). In 2014, he signed his first professional contract with Charlton.

Joe made his debut for the main team of Charlton on 12 August 2014 in the winning (4-0) League Cup match against Colchester United, a week later Gomez made his debut in the Championship, in a match against Derby County. During the season, Gomez entered the field 24 times (three of them in cups), including 18 in the starting lineup, playing both in the center of defense and on the right.

Gomez has played for the England U16 and U17 youth teams. In May 2014, he was called up to the national team for the European Youth Championship, where he played all five matches without substitutions, won the championship title and was included in the symbolic championship team. In September 2014, he took part in a U19 match for the first time.

On 20 June 2015, it was announced that the defender would transfer to Liverpool.

Unexpectedly for everyone, Gomez started the 2015/2016 season as the team’s main left-back and in the first five games of the championship. In September, however, he went to the bench, appearing there for the last time on October 4 in the derby.

After the match, which was the last for Brendan Rogers as coach of Liverpool, Gomez went to the location of the England U21 team, where he suffered a serious injury to the ligaments of his right knee. While recovering, he missed Jurgen Klopp’s entire first season on the team.

On July 15, 2016 it became known that Gomez suffered a new injury, this time with an Achilles tendon, and will miss the start of the season. After another period of rehabilitation, he fully recovered by mid-October and began playing for the club’s youth team. In January, he finally returned to the first team, playing three FA Cup matches from the start. On January 27, 2017, it was announced that Gomez had signed a new contract with the club on improved terms, but he has not played for the Reds first team this season.

In the 2017/2018 season, Gomez did much better. In the first half of the season, Gomez and Alexander-Arnold shared right-back positions after Nathaniel Kline’s injury. Joe made his debut in the England main squad in November in a friendly against Germany. During the season, he chalked up 31 matches in all tournaments, although he missed the last three months due to injury.

On December 10, 2018, Joe signed a new contract with the club until 2024.

In seasons 2019-2020, 2020-2021 he showed a pretty skilled defensive game and actually became a starting 11 player. But unfortunately he was injured in one of autumn`s matches.

His FIFA 21 card seems like a beast one and got the rating of 83 with a decent pace 82. It is one of the most popular cards so far.
