BCCI vice-president, Rajeev Shukla on Sunday said that the only solution to get rid of Covid-19 is to get players vaccinated as we don’t know when it will evacuate.

The surge in Covid-19 cases in India before the start of IPL has left the BCCI worried. Axar Patel and Devdutt Padikkal are the players who got the virus while Nitish Rana has recovered from it.

Although the players will be in a biosecure bubble during the league, the BCCI vice-president suggests that the players should get vaccinated.

Things aren’t looking good in Mumbai especially it raised worries when the news came of 10 groundsmen at Wankhede Stadium tested positive for Covid-19.

Four teams are currently staying in Mumbai and the concerns are raised due to a spike in Covid-19 cases in the city. BCCI has kept Hyderabad and Indore as a backup plan if things start getting worse.

Meanwhile, Rajeev Shukla says that the only solution is to get the players vaccination and for that purpose, he is going to meet with the health minister.

“To cope with this coronavirus rise, I think the only solution is to get vaccinated. BCCI is also thinking on those lines that players should be vaccinated.

“Nobody knows when coronavirus is going to end and you can’t give a deadline that by this time frame, it will not be there so players can play easily. So, I think now will have to think over that. Vaccination should be done for the players also,”

Shukla said as quoted by NDTV.

He also mentioned that the board is keeping an eye on all the six venues where IPL is going to hold. Right now, major concerns are with Mumbai as the city is going to host the first 10 matches from April 10 to 25.

“We are keeping a close eye on each venue regarding Covid-19 cases, as of now no decision has been taken but Indore and Hyderabad are on standby. Will see what to be done, health and safety of players are of utmost importance,”

Shukla further added.
