Royal Challenger Bangalore’s Glenn Maxwell not worried about criticism
It was more than a surprise for the fans of Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) as well as that of the Indian Premier League (IPL) when they witnessed the veteran Australian cricket all-rounder Glenn Maxwell struggling on all fronts in IPL 2020, but coming out strongly against the likes of England and in other tournaments later on in the year 2020.
Maxwell was out of form throughout IPL 2020 as he could score only 108 runs from as many as 13 matches at an average of 15.42 while hitting only 9 boundaries — a horrible return for a batsman who is known for his aggressive batting. However, Maxwell returned to form soon after, spanking runs aggressively during Australia’s tour of England which raised several eyebrows leading to former India cricketer Virender Sehwag making a controversial statement on the Australian cricketer.
While Sehwag went on to say that Maxwell had a holiday with the KXIP side, the Australian cricketer paid no heed to the comments made by the Indian great who was once associated with the coaching staff at the Kings XI Punjab.
For someone who had a torrid run, Maxwell surprised one and all when he was picked by Royal Challengers Bangalore for a whopping amount of INR 14.25 crores in the IPL 2021 auction held in February this year. The high price which the Australian got also displayed the fact that IPL teams still have a huge respect and place for the talent that he possesses, and Maxwell is not necessarily unfazed by criticism and is instead looking to put out strong performances.
Maxwell was told RCB’s YouTube channel,
”I probably don’t set targets. I think for myself, I just want to have a positive influence on the group, whether it be my performance, or attitude or the way I even help with the fielding practice – if I see improvement in the whole squad, the whole team as a collective, over the tournament.”
“Obviously, we want to win the tournament, but I want to make sure that everything I do during this time has a positive influence on the group,”
he said.
Maxwell added,
“So, I’m not overly concerned. I think my performances will take care of themselves. I want to have a positive influence on everything I do, as far as attitude, helping out around the team, leadership-wise helping out Virat [Kohli] when he needs it, and off the field, at training, and making sure the young guys are still developing as well.”
Royal Challengers Bangalore will bevgin their IPL 2021 campaign on April 9 a steak on five time title winners Mumbai Indians at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on the first day of the long tournament.
