FC Goa signs Indian international Adil Khan on loan from Hyderabad FC on loan for the remainder of the 2020-21 Indian Super League season.

Adil Khan was delighted after the move to the Goan club as he hails from Goa as well and spent the first ten years of his career in his home state. He said,

“Being from Goa, FC Goa is a club that has always been close to my heart, and finally the circumstances were exactly right for the move to happen.”

The 32-year old utility defensive-minded player praised the Goan club for their track record in the Indian Super League.

“I am not only going to my hometown club, but it is also one of the biggest clubs in the country and their track record shows it all. Being a Goan, playing formerly in a team with a similar style, and having known the players, I believe I can make a real mark on the team. I can’t wait to put on the FC Goa shirt,”

he said.

The Goan defender played in his home state for the first 10 years of his career as he was part of the SESA Academy from the age of 15 to 20 and then joined Sporting Goa in 2008. He made 74 appearances for Sporting Club de Goa in his five-year stay at the club and scored 12 goals for the team.

He also helped the club move up through the I-League second division to I-League, the top tier league of Indian football at that time playing both in central midfield and full-back position.

In the 2013 I-League season, Mohun Bagan signed Adi Khan and he made 6 appearances for the legendary Kolkata club. Khan was then picked up by the Delhi Dynamos (now Odisha FC) in the player draft and he started 7 league matches for the club in his solitary season with the Dynamos.

After some short stints with Bharat, Lonestar Kashmir, Dempo, and Churchill Brothers, Adil signed for FC Pune City and played for the ISL club till 2019 when it was disintegrated. The then FC Pune City player established himself as one of the first names on the teamsheet and helped the club qualify for the playoffs stage in 2017-18.

The Indian international reinvented himself as a centre-back as he made 18 appearances at the centre of defense for the Goan club in the 2016-17 I-League season.

The 32-year old signed a three-year extension with Hyderabad FC in the 2019-20 season of the ISL after deciding to stay with the new owners and was appointed as the captain of the Nizams as well in the ongoing ISL season.

FC Goa director of football Ravi Puskur was buoyant with delight to bring in a quality signing like Adil Khan in the January transfer window.

“We’re pleased to bring Adil on board to FC Goa. He’s a player who comes with a proven pedigree and will add to the team his leadership qualities as well. I’m sure he’ll be an asset for the team going into the second half of the season and in our maiden adventure into Asia,”

he said.
