Tottenham wing-man Gareth Bale was effective in the first leg of the Europa League 1/16 final against Wolfsberg (3-0, first half).

Spurs took the lead 13 minutes after the whistle. Matt Doherty got the ball on the right and played it to Gareth Bale. Bale made a cross into the box and Son Heung-min stoops down to head home.

The 31-year-old Wales international scored a goal (28th min) and made an assist so far in the game. For Bale, the goal was his fifth since returning to Tottenham and the assist was his first.

After that, Lucas Moura scored a beautiful one in the 35th minute after dribbling past two defenders.

Wolfsberger should figure out how to stop the London machine and score at least 2 goals, or the 2-leg exodus can be decided just in the first match.

  • This is the first time Spurs have scored three first-half goals in a Europa League game for the first time since December 2015 against Monaco. That ended 4-1.
  • Bale moved from Real Madrid to Tottenham on loan in September.
  • Gareth Bale has provided his first assist in a competitive game for Spurs in 2855 days (May 2013 vs. Wigan).
