Odisha appoints Kiko Ramirez as manager

Odisha has appointed Kiko Ramirez as their manager on a one-year deal until the end of the 2021-22 Indian Super League season with the option to extend for a further year as well.

After putting pen to paper for the Juggernauts, head coach Ramirez said

“I am very excited to arrive in India and start working on this amazing project with Odisha FC to make our fans feel proud of the team. We are going to work hard to build a strong team with good players that represent our fan base.”

Odisha FC president Raj Athwal welcomed the new manager and praised his experience and ambition ahead of a big season for the club. 

He said,

“We are delighted to welcome Coach Ramirez to the Odisha family. He brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the club and has an impressive record with the clubs he has managed in Europe. Throughout the process, he impressed us with his vision and ambition and demonstrated a desire to create a winning mentality at Odisha Football Club. I am sure our supporters and everyone in Odisha will welcome Coach Ramirez with open arms.”

The Juggernauts have also appointed Joaquin Garcia Sanchez as the assistant coach and the head of football development at the club.

Mr. Athwal also welcomed Sanchez to the club and praised him highly setting high expectations for the new assistant coach.

He added,

“I am also pleased to welcome our Assistant Coach Joaquin who has an impressive track record of developing players from the youth set up to the first team. His experience of coaching and developing the youth teams at Valencia CF will be paramount as we look to build and strengthen our Academy in Odisha.”

Sanchez was also upbeat as the Spaniard is looking forward to the new challenge in a new country.

He said,

“I am happy to be part of the team as Assistant Coach of the first team and Head of Football Development for the Club. I am really looking forward to start training with the great team that we are building. To all the fans, you will feel proud of us.”

Odisha could only gather 12 points in 20 league matches last season and the club has ramped up their preparations for the 2021-22 ISL season with the new manager on board and new signings set to be announced in the next few days.
