Norwich City News & Current Form:

Many have become so used to the fact that Norwich often roam between the EPL and the Championship. Last season, the team once again crashed out of the elite of English football, finishing in last place.

Before the start of the season, many had put the Canaries as the favourites to get the straight promotion, however, it all started disastrously. In the first round, we saw a rather raw game of Dean Smith’s men against Cardiff City (0-1), in the whole game the opponents managed to make only 3 shots on target. This was followed by a draw against struggling Wigan Athletic, who are very likely to fight for survival this season. The 1-1 result at least helped to reprieve the unpleasant aftertaste of defeat.

But that charge of relative positivity was not enough as the Yellow-Greens lost to Hull City the very next round, conceding two goals. The game ended 1-2. The main reason for the team’s under-performance is their poor finishing and bad luck, as the Canaries were statistically better than their opponents. The team plays in a fresh and interesting way, they press, they create interesting attacks. The star of the team, Max Aarons, is especially notable.

Against this background, qualifying for the 1/32 finals of the League Cup looks like a success. Norwich beat Birmingham on penalties.

The last place before the upcoming match brings some confusion, after all, the head coach is quite an experienced specialist, before this season he spent three years with Aston Villa, bringing them first to the English Premier League, and then in the season 20/21 he even managed to finish 11th. A definite injury crisis may be the cause, with six players dropping out of the ranks.

Despite this, Norwich definitely have the quality and ability to hang on at the top of the table, but that can only be achieved with the victories, it’s time for them to capitalise on their numerous chances created. On Tuesday, Norwich will try to please their army of fans with their first win. Against the Terriers, the visitors have a perfect record.

Huddersfield Town News & Current Form:

Huddersfield are having a poor start to the season as well, although the Terriers have not had any inflated expectations. An utterly coach-сentred team is bound to suffer a decline once its creator is gone. In his two years in charge, Carlos Corberán has managed to lead the Terriers to the heights of Championship, culminating in having a chance to even snatch promotion to the Premier League. With the Spanish specialist, the club showed their best football in recent years, with a goaldifference of +17. That is impressive, considering their poor results in the 19/20 (18th place) and 20/21 seasons (20th).

The 39-year-old specialist, for whom this team represented the senior managerial debut, decided to pursue new challenges, and a good chunk of the key players like Harry Toffolo, Pipa and Lewis O’Brien decided to leave as well.

The downfall was simply inevitable. The management came up with nothing better than to give a chance to Danny Schofield from the club’s structure. The Englishman has only little experience of coaching youth teams.

The team suffered defeats to Burnley (0-1) and Birmingham (1-2). They quickly finished their League Cup campaign with a heavy defeat to Preston (1-4). On 13 August, Huddersfield started to show signs of life with their first win of the season, beating Stoke City 3-1 at home.

Unlike their future opponent, however, Huddersfield were able to pick up at least one victory. But it must be admitted that, in contrast to Norwich, the White-Blues look frankly bad and a bit lost. A hastily rebuilt defence is yet to find the chemistry but for now they are just conceding in every game, and this is a chance for Teemu Pukki and company. The Finn has a superb record in the Championship, having netted 55 goals and provided 14 assists in 87 games. Despite disappointing head-to-head stats and a class difference, the Terriers look to build on their momentum.

The last three meetings between the two sides, one friendly and two in the Championship, were all won by Norwich. The most recent official game is something the visitors do not want to bring up: back then, Carlos Corberan’s team suffered an absolute collapse at Carrow Road, 7-0.

“We came through the Stoke game unscathed. The players are fit and we did recovery yesterday for those who played and training for those who didn’t.”

“Norwich are a squad full of quality and the stats have been in their favour, but they’ve just not had the results. We’re fully aware of that. It’s a good time for us because we’re coming off the back of a win and that’s what we’re focused on.”

Norwich City vs Huddersfield Town Prediction:

On paper Norwich look a far more established and competitive side, the experienced coach has installed a good looking style of play and as the season progresses the Canaries will of course improve on the one element of their games that is lacking – performance in the last third of the pitch, specifically finishing.

At the moment, the main thing that creates a certain amount of scepticism is the injury blow plaguing the team. As we know, one of the latest pieces of news sounds like a curse, after Jacob Sørensen dropped out for an indefinite number of weeks, there are simply no profile players available at the left-back position. And Pukki, last years’ irreplaceable centre-forward, may miss the upcoming match – he suffered a bruised leg in the last game – but Dean Smith is optimistic.

Speaking of their opponents, the Terriers are definitely getting flashbacks from that 0-7 thrashing, it will be very difficult for them in the away game and they certainly approach the match as underdogs, so far they show unremarkable football. But despite this, Huddersfield knows very well where to ‘hit’ in the upcoming game, with proper play on the weaknesses of an injury-weakened opponent, the Terriers are at least capable of getting a draw result, especially considering the Canaries’ goal-scoring problems. After all, the guests have the most high-quality players on the right.
