Manchester United is the latest English Premier League club to sign a central midfielder and the Red Devils have landed the signature of Mason Mount on a five-year deal.

The England international will don the legendary No.7 shirt at the club and the fans are looking forward to witnessing Mount and Bruno Fernandes work in tandem in the middle of the park.

The Chelsea academy graduate made his Premier League debut against Manchester United in a 4-0 loss for the London-based club in the 2019-20 PL season and the midfielder is excited about joining the 13-time Premier League winners.

The 24-year old said,

“It’s never easy leaving the club where you grew up, but Manchester United will provide an exciting new challenge for the next phase of my career. Having competed against them, I know just how strong a squad it is that I’m joining, and I can’t wait to be part of this group’s drive to win major trophies.”

Mount further talked about ten Hag’s influence at the club and can’t wait to win trophies under the Dutch manager’s stewardship.

Mount continued,

“Everyone can see that the club has made big steps forward under Erik ten Hag. Having met with the manager and discussed his plans, I couldn’t be more excited for the seasons ahead and am ready for the hard work expected here. I am hugely ambitious; I know how amazing it feels to win major trophies and what it takes to do it. I will be giving everything to experience that again at Manchester United.”

Mason Mount’s loan spell at Derby County helped him blossom into a world-class midfielder

Mount came through the Chelsea academy and had loan spells with Vitesse and Derby County where he featured in the Playoffs Conference League and the EFL Championship Playoffs respectively. While Mount helped Vitesse qualify for Europe, he headed straight for Derby County next season where he was part of a squad that gave it their all for promotion to the top tier of English football but fell at the last hurdle losing 2-1 to Aston Villa in the final.

The English midfielder then returned to Chelsea, made his senior debut, and had 13 goal contributions in his maiden PL season while earning a call-up to England’s senior team as well for the first time in his career. Since then, Mount has accumulated a total of 58 goals and 53 assists in 279 club appearances winning Chelsea’s Player of the Year in two consecutive seasons.

The midfielder also has 36 England caps to his name with 5 goals and 5 assists with one of those assists coming in the 2020 Euros where Mount played a pivotal part in England’s journey to the final.

Manchester United football director John Murtough spoke glowingly about the club’s latest signing and how perfectly he would fit in ten Hag’s squad.

“Mason is an extremely intelligent footballer and has so many fantastic technical qualities that will significantly add to our squad. We have admired his talents for a long time, so we are delighted that he has chosen to take the next steps in his career here at Old Trafford. His style of play and attributes are a perfect fit for this squad, and we all believe that he will only improve further working with Erik ten Hag and his coaching staff.”

The football director further talked about how Mount would help in unlocking other players’ abilities via his strengths and his desire and thirst to join the club.

The 52-year old concluded,

“Mason himself is a world-class player but he also has the ability to improve the players around him through his game intelligence and tactical awareness. We were particularly impressed by his strong desire to join United, and his thirst for further success, as we push to drive up our performance levels next season and beyond.”

Mount’s dead-ball skills and versatility have been talked about a lot in the past few weeks prior to the signing but that only comes as an advantage to his core skill set further highlighting how the Englishman is the perfect fit in the Red Devils’ squad.
