Jamshedpur signs Australian striker Harry Sawyer
Jamshedpur has signed Australian striker Harrison Hickey Sawyer ahead of the 2022-23 Indian Super League season.
The Australian striker has had spells in the Philippines and Hong Kong but will be plying his trade in the Indian subcontinent for the first time in his career.
He said,
“This will be my first time in Indian football, and I am excited to join the current ISL League winners. Indian Super League has grown exponentially, with players like Tim Cahill having previously played in the league and for Jamshedpur.”
The 25-year old is excited to play in front of the Jamshedpur fans and is looking forward to meeting his teammates and the head coach.
He continued,
“I have heard about the rich culture of Jamshedpur and the devoted fans at the Furnace. I am excited to experience the same and looking forward to kick-off my new adventure in India as a part of the Men of Steel.”
Sawyer represented the youth teams of Brisbane Roar and Newcastle Jets in 2016 and 2017 respectively while featuring for their senior teams simultaneously. Later in 2017, the striker won the NPL Queensland Grand Final with Western Pride scoring 15 goals in 7 matches.
Recently, the forward has represented Davao Aguilas scoring 13 goals in 24 matches followed by 21 goals in 33 matches for NPL Victoria side South Melbourne which also involved a brief loan stint in the NPL Queensland with Gold Coast Knights where he scored 15 goals in 19 matches.

The Red Miners’ new head coach Aidy Boothroyd praised his new acquisition’s skills in the box and hopes that the Brisbane-born striker would be hitting the back of the net numerous times in the upcoming ISL season.
He said,
“Harry’s skill in converting goals, shots inside the box, quick feet, targeted headers, and physicality makes him the best choice as a striker. Harry is a great addition to our squad and a potent threat to opponents’ defences. With his skill-set, guidance, and hard work, we hope to see a lot of goals.”
After parting ways with world-class forwards Greg Stewart and Jordan Murray, the League champions would be scrambling to find players to replace last season’s quality and skill-set in the club’s forward line. Sawyer has no experience of playing in India but should be up to the task when the ISL 2022-23 season kicks off in grand fashion.
