Hyderabad has signed former Bengaluru central defender Juanan on a one-year deal until the end of the 2021-22 Indian Super League season.

After signing for the Nizams, Juanan said

“I am delighted to have signed for Hyderabad FC. I saw how the team put on a strong show last season in the ISL. I spoke to Manolo and other players about the team, and I think we have a strong side this season to get to the playoffs.

The Spaniard sighted head coach Manolo Marquez as a big reason to sign for the Hyderabad-based club. He said,

“Manolo is very good, as a coach and as a person. Everyone has seen the work he has put in with the team last season. His idea is very clear, and he wants his team to play with the ball in every situation. The team has always put up a fight at all times and everyone could see that.”

Hyderabad manager Manolo Marquez was also full of praise for his latest signing and explained why the 34-year old is the perfect signing in defense for the Nizams.

He said,

“Juanan’s experience is very important because we have very good young defenders in our team, and he can help them. Not too many players have played in India consistently over five seasons.”

After starting his senior career with Deportivo La Coruna B, Juanan moved to Real Madrid B a couple of seasons later and spent two years with the Madrid-based club. Then, the central defender moved to Fortuna Dusseldorf to ply his trade in the German second division before playing in the Hungarian league and the North American Soccer League.

A journeyman throughout his footballing career, Juanan finally found a home in Bengaluru where he stayed for five seasons and helped the Blues win the Indian Super League title, the Federation Cup, and the Super Cup apart from reaching the final of the AFC Cup.

Hyderabad let go of their Spanish central defender Odei Onaindia after the end of the 2020-21 ISL season and the decision wasn’t welcomed by the fans but a replacement like Juanan should impress one and all across Indian football.
