Don’t miss the most interesting part of the tournament, which this year has perhaps reached a whole other level. On the Tuesday-Wednesday night, the UEFA European Women’s Championship semi-final match awaits us. The English are planning to claim the major trophy, but the Swedish ladies are ready to put up a fight. It’s going to be interesting.

Parimatchnews will tell you everything you need to know ahead of the upcoming match.

England Women News & Current Form:

England are one of the strongest women’s national teams in the world right now, yet they have never won a title at a major international tournament before. The Lionesses have only managed to bag a bronze at the Women’s World Cup in 2015 and a silver medals at the 1984 and 2009 Continental tournaments.

Now, at UEFA EURO 2022, England are on course to lift the title for the first time in their history.

‘Football’s Coming Home’, the fans are chanting.

The Lionesses have been flawless at every stage of the tournament so far, however, they almost botched it in the quarter-finals. The feisty Spanish team put up a serious fight. The Red Fury showed their mettle, scoring first in the 54th minute, before the home team managed to level in the 84th minute. As a result, the game went into overtime: the winning goal was scored by Georgia Stanway in the 96th minute of the game (2-1).

It was the most difficult battle so far, and in fact it was the first time the English team conceded a goal. Up front is an unstoppable Sweden, who are also coming off an unbeaten run at this European Championships.

Speaking of the main trump card: Bethany Mead is England’s main hope for Euro 2022. Yes, the 27-year-old is not a centre-forward, but she is the national team’s top scorer right now. She has already scored five goals and made two assists in four games. Such a productivity should not be surprising, as last season for London’s Arsenal she played 22 matches, in which she scored 11 goals with eight assists. Obviously, she is in great form, and clearly capable of another blistering performance.

Sweden Women News & Current Form:

The Swedish women’s national team, in turn, is a common guest on the podium at major international tournaments. The Scandinavians have been especially successful at the continental championships, where they have competed ten times in their history: once as champions, three times as silver medallists, four times as bronze medallists and only twice without a medal.

The Blue-Yellows kicked off at UEFA EURO 2022 group stage with a 1-1 draw against the Netherlands, but then managed to edge out Switzerland 2-1 and Portugal. In the quarter-finals the Swedes had a real struggle against the Belgian fortress. For 92 minutes they could not break through the Red Flames’ defence, although they constantly tried to do nothing else but attack. The goal-difference amounted to 34:3, with the shots on targer 10:0. Despite this, the Blue-Yellows have finally managed to snatch the hard-fought victory at the last minutes of the injury time – 1:0, Linda Sembrant has become the hero of the match.

Now England stand in the way, undefeated and, judging by the game, clearly not about to give up. In general, both teams are enjoying a good tournament, but the hosts have a 18-match positibe streach under Wiegman, the national record. 100 goals in that time, conceding just four. This looks really dengerous for any opponent. The Tre Kronor are good, but they have one draw in comparison. However it is true, that the future counterparts are worth each other.

Sweden are a little more modest in terms of their main attacking force, with Philippa Engeldahl netting two goals and Kosovare Asllani netting one and providing three assists. The numbers are evidently different, with the English attack looking more impressive.

What has been said before the match:

Lucy Bronze, England defender:

“It’s a huge opportunity. I’m lucky enough to have experienced semi-finals, unlucky enough to have experienced defeat. So far things have been a little different from previous tournaments, but psychologically we’ve always been prepared to be at the top. A lot of players are used to being in winning teams now more than ever. There are a lot more of those processes that our players are now used to.”

Ella Toone, England midfielder:

“For all of us, it would be amazing to get that win in the semi-final. We’re so grateful for the fans that support us, whether that’s in the stadium or at home, and we just want to keep making them proud. Hopefully, we can go on and put on another big performance. I think we’re getting more and more fans involved, everyone’s just loving it and enjoying it, and I’m sure we’ll have even more fans supporting us in the semis.”

Peter Gerhardsson, Sweden coach:

“There’s an enormous strength in our individuals, which makes us a strong group. England have done very well, [even if] they had a few problems with Austria. It will be an enormous, fantastic experience to play a semi-final against England in England – wow!”

Linda Sembrant, Sweden defender:

“It’s going to be really, really big [against] England, with a big crowd and with our Swedish fans who have been absolutely fantastic. It will be very cool.”

England Women vs Sweden Women Prediction:

England and Sweden had a great group stage at Euro 2022 but surprisingly struggled to find a positive result in their quarter-final matches. They will now face each other in the semis, where the hosts seem to have a better chance of success. In the last game, the Lionesses showed their character and proved that they can turn the tide in unfavorable encounters. A sell-out crowd is sure to keep them going, spurring them on with energy and emotion.

However, Sweden are also capable of pulling off surprises. There is a reason why they are fifth (England are sixth) in the FIFA rankings. The team know how to play quality football and also know how to overpower their opponents in difficult scenarios.

Do not expect the teams to launch one dangerous attack after another from the opening minutes of the encounter. Even at the quarterfinal stage, playing with more modest opponents, it took the English and Swedish teams a long time to crack down defences, and therefore productive action began to occur only at the end of the second half. And now the ladies will start the semi-final battle with utmost caution. Any mistake could be fatal in the fight for the gold.

It is difficult to decide who is the favourite; it is risky to assume victory for any team. We should expect something similar to the England-Spain encounter. That said, the opponents may well score against each other.
