Two-time ISL champion Chennaiyin has signed Polish midfielder Ariel Borysiuk on a one-year deal until the end of the 2021-22 Indian Super League season.

After signing for the Marina Machans, Borysiuk said

“I am very excited about joining the club. It’s a new experience for me to play outside of Europe and I’m looking forward to it.  I promise that I will do my best so that we can have wonderful moments together.”

Chennaiyin owner Vita Dani talked up their latest signing’s experience across the top leagues in Europe and said that the signing is a statement of intent from the club that finished in the 8th position in the 2020-21 ISL league table.

She said,

“We are delighted to bring in someone as experienced and well-traveled as Ariel. This is a real positive signing for us and our vision this season.”

Ariel Borysiuk is primarily a defensive midfielder who has played in central defense whenever called upon during his career. After making his debut for Legia Warsaw at 16, the midfielder became the youngest goalscorer in the club’s history at the age of 16 years and 265 days.

The midfielder also made his debut for Poland in 2010 and went on to make 12 appearances for the senior national team.

The Polish midfielder also played for Kaiserslautern in the Bundesliga before they were relegated to the second division and then went on to play for the Volga in the Russian Premier League before returning to Poland with Lechia Gdansk.

After spending 18 months with Gdansk, Borysiuk returned to Legia Warsaw and won the 2015-16 Ekstraklasa with his boyhood club. Since then, the experienced midfielder has represented Queens Park Rangers in the Championship and played for Sherrif Tiraspol, where he won the Moldovian league as well.

The new Chennaiyin manager Bozidar Bandovic echoed the sentiments of the club owner and fans alike when he cited Borysiuk as a great signing.

The Montenegrin head coach said,

“There’s not much to say about Ariel [Borysiuk]. He has operated at such a high level for all his career. It’s a great signing.”

Since appointing Bandovic as the head coach, the club has done good quality business in the transfer market bringing in the likes of Mirlan Murzaev, Salam Ranjan Singh, Jobby Justin, Deepak Devrani, and Slavko Damjanovic to strengthen all areas on the pitch.
